As OVERSTREET points out, Ditko's visual templates were not necessarily
limited to his earlier Charlton work. On your right is the cover to
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #6 (Nov '63),
the classic first appearance of The Lizard. In his earliest appearance by
Ditko, the Lizard didn't quite have the Aardvark-like nose with which most
artists would portray him, but he had those great green scales! And from
where might the Lizard have picked those up? Could it be from an earlier
Atlas issue, JOURNEY INTO
MYSTERY #82 (Jul '62)? On your left is the last page from this
classic story, entitled ''Take A Chair''. One can clearly see the resemblance
in the green scaling on our alien friend from over a year before the
Lizard would make his debut.
