Can it be true, a visual template for PETER PARKER a mere 17 months
before AMAZING FANTASY #15 (Sep '62)? The hair, the blue suit, the tie
all add up in this Charlton comic, UNUSUAL TALES #27
(Apr '61), featuring what looks drastically close to the look Ditko would give the world's
most famous teenager.
Compare and contrast the
appearance of the above panel to the two panels on your left,
from AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #8 (Jan '64).
Only the yellow vest has been added. The shape of the hair is identical.
The character in the above Charlton comic even has the name 'PETERS'!
To your right is one of the last panels from
the UNUSUAL TALES story. It's another dead-ringer shot of Peter Parker, again a mere
17 months before his debut in AMAZING FANTASY #15. The hair always tells the tale!
Compare the hair on Peter in panel two above with the hair in the panel of your
right. More proof Ditko always referenced back to his older work, primarily Charlton
work, when creating the visual of the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN comic.
