The Out-of-Towners

(1999, Dir.: )

Normally I love both John Cleese and Steve Martin (I am indifferent towards Goldie Hawn); that they couldn't save this film from being utterly wretched says a lot. It seemed like the director had seen Steve Martin being funny travelling (Planes, Trains and Automobiles) and John Cleese being funny running a hotel (Fawlty Towers) and dressing in women's clothing (Monty Python) and figured all he had to do was show Steve Martin traveling to a hotel run by a cross-dressing John Cleese and, presto!, funny movie. Wrong. I haven't seen the original, but it could hardly be worse or (with the very occasional Cleese moment exception) less funny.
