The Great Books of the Ages
Here's the reading list kids:
A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
A great book about what can happen when people rely too much on the powers that be to provide for their happiness. A gram is better than a damn.
Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo
Read this one and you'll never cheer for "our side" in a war again. War is ugly, not heroic and definitely not glamorous. There is no "our side," we all lose and enough is enough.
Watership Down by Richard George Adams
One of my favorite books, and definitely the best book about rabbits I've ever heard of. I think we can all relate to the experience of going tharn at least once in our lives.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Lila by Robert Pirsig
Metaphysics of Quality. Excellent philosophy and good guides to life in these crazy times we live in.
Those are the heavy hitters. For lighter reading I suggest anything by Stephen King, especially the Dark Tower series, Ann Rice's Vampire Chronicles, or Frank Herbert's Dune series. And if political satire and Gonzo journalism is your cup of tea, check out The Great Shark Hunt, or anything else by Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas has been made into a movie with Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro. It's fantastic.
