ABOUT BARKADA

To all those who are new to this site... WELCOME! And to all those who have been here before...WELCOME BACK!

     First of all, this site is an homage to my college days and to my "barkada", which in Filipino means, "group of friends".

     BARKADA, is a group of 8 super-powered teenagers, who work for the government, and was formed in order to "stem the rising wave of crime caused by super-villains."

     The group is called QWILLLE, taken from the first letter of each members name. The last member, BABA, initially wasn't part of the group until later, so even though her initial isn't part of the name, she's still as important as the others.

     During the comics boom (a.k.a. Image Comics), there was an insurgence of Filipino creators who started with their own creations here in the Philippines and some internationally (like Whilce Portacio for example). But what I've always noticed, that even though the creators are Filipinos, they weren't writing about Filipinos (but now we have "Stone", so I think that's an improvement).

     This is a Filipino-based site, I don't want any other races, cultures, or sects to shy away from this fact, so to make everything fair and user-friendly I decided to use English here, and not Filipino. I'm not saying that other sites that use languages other than English isn't user-friendly or unfair, that's their choice and this is mine, I respect their freedom, and they should respect mine. Just think of this site as a "cultural experience", a chance to learn more about Filipinos, and for Filipinos maybe to learn more about each other.

MY INFLUENCES

     If you go through this site, you'll find that I take major influences from the "X-Men", and the now defunct "New Mutants" . These are the comics that I grew up with, and they made a big impact on me, and how I view and understand comics. But hopefully I put enough of my own "twist" to keep you interested and not call it a "carbon copy".

WHAT'S INSIDE

      Visitor's to this site may find some things have changed, but the basic format is the same, I just modified it a bit. Like for instance the art. I changed practically all the art with the exception of the comic. The colors now are more live and vivid now that I finally got the hang of my coloring program, so instead of seeing drawings that were colored manually then scanned, you'll see better resolution and clearer picture quality (waitaminit that's the Sony Wega, ain't it?...well whatever).

     If you want to know more about the characters, both the heroes and their adversaries, then check out PROFILES. To know a little more about where our heroes reside and why then go to SETTINGS. To check out the ongoing adventures of the team then click on THE COMIC, the story will take awhile to complete (Why? Check out AUTHOR for more details). Something new to the site is the SPOTLIGHT section (formerly known as the SOLOS' section) in which I will feature a character, "spotlighting" their origin and how I created them on a monthly basis. An added feature is the GALLERY, this was here before but the thumbnails wouldn't work, here I won't only show pictures of the group but, weekly art featuring some well known heroes and villains both of the comic world and video gaming world, and beyond.   Looking for other sites that I think are cool? Go to the LINKS section. I'm inviting everyone to come back regularly, and to see if their are new developments with the site, it will be announced on the web and in the UPDATES section.

     Here's a tip when surfing through this site, all you have to do is remember which each icon means at the homepage and you can use these icons to navigate throughout the site, there are icons on  the bottom of each page so you won't need to go back to the homepage all the time, if there are no icons on the page just use the "back" function of your browser.
