SABBATH CAFE
by
YACHI Emiko

Dai Yonogi, Marty, Jerry Morton

Dai was the only Japanese student
at St. George International School (Japan).
He was on 8th grade.
Dai didn't like to have friends....
He was always alone....
What's the secret he kept in his heart?

Omar Bradley - 2 years older, a football player
Sioux Morton - Jerry's little sister who liked shopping and "loved" Dai
Jerry Morton - he cut his hair later after a tragic accident, Dai's class-mate
Marty - Dai's class-mate, a genius in making horror puppets
Dai Yonogi himself
Jeany - Dai's class-mate, a reporter at school
This was the world around Dai.
When his friends asked to come to his house,
he hired a couple of Japanese to be his parents.

He never went to school before.
Ken Jogasaki was the person who taught him
to read and write.

He built a dream world in a computer system.
He invented "Sabbath Child",
a very famous computer game,
so he became very rich.

But actually he had nightmares to
Haloween's mask....
He didn't have sweet memories....

Dai went by his bike to see all Japan
to seek the meaning of his life.
One day he left suddenly without saying good bye to his friends to go back to Chicago.
Then he followed Jerry to England
because he was guilty to Jerry's grandma.

Then why Lady Morton said that he actually didn't have dream in his life?
While he kept saying he was okay, everybody said he was not happy.

Ruth J. Karakhan, his lawyer in Chicago, hated him because he didn't cry
when he lost somebody she knew loved and took care of him very much.
Is that true, he didn't love and appreciate what he did to him?
And he didn't have feeling at all?

Then what should Dai do when he found out that he still had a grandma,
who hated his mother badly and said to him, "Why do you still alive?!"

It is not easy
to rebuild
a personality shaped
by environments since
but even it's almost nothing
it's not something impossible
with strength, will and desire
along with the time
and your effort

(Sabbath Cafe vol 5 page 85)

Emiko Yachi did well with the story about a  lonely young boy, unloved, who's trying to be existed in this world alone, while questioning the meaning of friends, love and happiness
- the meaning of life.
