What You'll Find Here And What You Wont
What you'll find:
Welcome to my knowledge base. I plan to write and post
several articles to help people like myself,
that make any kind of jewelry, or anything else made mostly from maille. More information about
maille can be found
here. Hopefully, I can educate, as well as entertain,
and enlighten you with my articles. I will be as descriptive in the articles and as clear as possible to make them
as easy to understand as I can. However, if you have a question, or comment, there are contact links on the left.
Also I will keep graphics low so the pages will load faster. You'll also notice the links on the right,
with a brief description of the article just above the links they describe.
What you wont find:
What you wont find, repeated tutorials on
how the various weaves in maille are made, unless I make it different than
other tutorials. I also will not write about ARs (aspect ratios)
for any weaves, nor will I have charts for them. There are plenty of excellent sites and
articles already written for those.
A Little About Me
When I Started Making Jewelry:
I started making jewelry in the mid 1980's.
At first I made nylon body piercing jewelry from weed eater cord and beads. I later taught myself
how to make beads from aluminum, brass, and steel rods, using a hand drill and hand tools. I'm a
very creative person, I like to make stuff with my hands. I've also flattened 1/4" copper tubing into bracelets
and used steel punches to decorate them, after I found one my grandfather had made.
In 2004 I had to take a medical leave from my job and not being
able to stand and being extremely bored I was looking for jewelry for my wife. Somehow I found a website about maille
making and made my first rings from some old electric fence wire that I had, using tools I had laying around.
It wasn't much, but it was a start.
