EVENING BY THE POND

After a hot summer day, she sat beneath the pine trees
By the pond welcoming the evening coolness.

A fountain in the center of the pond
Was shooting water twenty feet into the air.
Revolving colored lights on the opposite bank
Shone through the cascade in red, blue, and green.
Occasionally, the fountain mist
Carried by a gentle breeze
Felt like soft rain against her face.
Fish jumping to catch bugs
Created the illusion of raindrops on the water,
As small circles spread into larger ones.

The sounds of crickets and frogs filled the night air;
While shadows of swaying tree branches
Danced in the moonlight.

In this tranquil ambience
The evening became enchanted.
