A Statue's Mystery

(May 1, 2002)

"He has seen it all -
Sentry eyes,
Taut and fixed . . ."

 - Can I pierce a statue’s mystery?
Should my interest depend on the sculptor’s reputation?
I prefer marble to bronze.
Yet, bronze is in and marble’s
Out of it,
More prone to art.

- How can my reading stick on slippery folds?
Should it rely on the museum’s interpretation?

- I’ll carve my own statue and make a fool of myself.
I’ll have someone carve it for me.
Can I buy creative art?
I can only buy taste.

"He’s the embodiment of his own unsought will."
