Editorial Page Assignments

Assignment #1

Write a short (two-take)editorial on a subject of your choosing. Take this assignment as an opportunity to test your wings. Refer to the nine steps listed on P. 127 in the text. Be prepared to discuss, after you've written the editorial, your purpose, the audience, the tone, and the general format. The editorial should demonstrate that you have done at least a small amount of research.

Assignment #2

Write an even shorter (one to two takes) editorial commenting on a subject of interest. This is an opportunity to write about something that interests you in a way that will also interest your readers. The subjects are virtually limitless.

Assignment #3

Write a full-bodied editorial (three or four takes)on an issue currently in the news. This editorial should take a clear position on a public issue and be presented as an argument. It should demonstrate that the writer has done some research on the subject to inform his or her argument. You may not write about sports.

Assignment #4

Write an editorial of at least four takes on an issue currently in the news. This editorial, like the third, should be presented as an argument on a public issue. It should demonstrate, if the subject is appropriate (I hope you'll be able to find appropriate subjects), a bit of legwork and traditional research to inform the writer's argument. You may not write about sports.
