The Midnight Fairy
In slippered feet, fairy light She grants each wish in black of night. Children escape to fantasy land, Catch trails of glit'ring sand in their hands. In rapid sweet flow of milky way cream Children escape within a dream, Have the night to run away and play ‘Neath stars stepping to the day. Forgetting all meaness in the world Children escape with fists unfurled, Play hide and seek with the dish and the spoon, Found in the smile of the man in the moon. At least for a time when night rests the beasts Children escape for a moment at least, Dawn breaks the day, eyes fill again As they flow through the glass Till glitter paints the sand. ©1998 Peggy Putnam Owen |
