Wire Weave

8 1/2" wide x 10" high

Woven brass and copper on black cotton on red rip-stop nylon on some sort of shimmery aqua stuff that feels nylony that I never thought I'd use in a million years.

This one was an accident. I thought woven wire was a good idea.  First I sewed 26 buttons of different colors and sizes onto black fabric. Next I twisted the wire around the buttons as I went back and forth for the one direction. Then I wove the other direction. After doing all the weaving I decided I didn't like the buttons so I took them off.  Fortunately little circles remained in the wire so I sewed the wire to the fabric at those circles.  Then I slapped on some batting and a backing piece and zigzagged the edges.  It sat like that for months. I was working on something else and found the red and aqua in my scrap box - I would not normally have said they went together but I wasn't really thinking - I was doing.  Honest to goodness I just plopped one thing on the other and before I knew it, it was done - binding and all.  It grew on me. I made a zigzaggy copper hangar for it.  Surprisingly it has drawn quite a few positive comments.  My husband suggested I put a wire ring at each intersection.  He has some great ideas.  It's on my To Do list for the next woven wire creation.
