Alright- this isn't really a poet's corner but I loved this picture!
If you've never heard of them..
they were on MTV here in the U.S. at the end of '99. The first time I saw them I was home by myself and I was like, "what the hell am I watching?" Sock puppets made with bits of fake plants as hair, plastic doll parts for an occasional arm, materials to match the personality. Very simple, low-budget backgrounds and props took an appropriate backseat to the hilarity of the main characters, SIfl, Olly, and CHester as they interviewed, sang and had their own shopping network. I was laughing away and wanted to call up every person I knew to tell them to see it but I didn't want to miss a second. DUring a call-in segment, their landlord, made of a chamois, wearing a dirty wife beater and smoking a cigar, wanted to know why they appeared to be digging a moat around his rental property. "The neightborhood children keep turning up missing", he said. The next day, i was in the car and the chick on the radio said she'd seen this bizarre show on MTV the night before and thought it was hilarous. I knew I hadn't made it up.
After two seasons they were taken off the air despite the fact, according to their website, that they were one of the top watched shows in the 18-25 year old bracket.
