One of the most ubiquitous Morris dances (and tunes) is "The Cuckoo's Nest." Seems like there's about a dozen different versions out there. In the spirit of adding to an already confused issue, I decided to write my own version of 'Cuckoo's Nest,' and this is it.
My Nest
Canon
This tune starts out very simple, and builds into... something.
I tried to write this tune in 5/4 for about a week before I realized that it wanted to be written in 10/4, which is a fairly odd time signature. The tune is kind of odd, too.
Ten
A solemn tune for a heavy concept, or evidence that I am running out of ideas for tune names? Guess.
The Vow
The full title of this tune is "Ocho Pochos Con Ojos Rojo," which translates (loosely) into "Eight Guys With Red Eyes." I was thinking of Bruno when I wrote it.

Tarantella A tarantella is a kind of italian dance. I heard somewhere that tarantellas were dances done to keep the poison out when bitten by a Tarantula. Since there aren't any poisonous Tarantulas in Italy, my guess is that it must have worked admirably. This should probably known as "ow! ow! ow!" music. I've never seen the dance. I hope it's comic.
I know this guy Leland who leads a great swing band called 'Lee Presson and the Nails." He is a funny guy, and a really good performer. One day I was at the Renaissance Faire and Martin said, "Lee and his band are playing tonight out at the red barn!"

"Oh?" I said, "How do you know?"

"Somebody told me," he replied.

Thus the name of this tune.

Somebody Told Me
I don't know, it sounded like an anthem to me. The third voice has some nice Bach-like lines, if you're interested.
Anthem
Cracked Rib Jig
I wrote this tune while convalescing from having my ribs broken by a belligerent drunk. Thus the name.
Blues For Matilda The tune explains the title. Check it out.
