What Is Wicca?
Now THIS is a tough question. Wicca is very different for a lot of people. Understandably so, as it is usually passed on orally. There is not definitive written text (though anything by Scott Cunningham is brilliant, avoid Silver Ravenwolf's work like the plague!) but there are a lot of texts out there written by practising witches. Some better than others...some half assed attempts...others go above and beyond expectations. There are so many factions of Wicca you can't count them all because everyone has their own interpretation.

But what can be said for Wicca is that it is an Earth based matrilineal religion. There are two major rules. One being "An ye harm none, do what ye will" and the other "What ye sends forth comes to to thee, so ever mind the rule of three" which basically means, anything you send out (good or bad) will come back at you three fold.

MYTH
It almost seems tiring to have to say it over and over again, but witches do not worship the devil. Wiccans don't even believe that the devil exists. The people you meet who worship "Satan" are "Satanists" and have no affiliations to Wicca no matter what they may say. Wicca is not an evil religion.

Wiccans do not perform blood rites (some perform menstrual ceremonies however) and they do not offer/sacrifice animals in the name of the Goddess/God or anything else. A lot of Wiccans are vegetarians.

DEITY
Well, if you didn't know already, Wicca is a matrilineal religion. If you're looking for an occult/pagan relgion that is patrilineal you're better to look more towards druidry or something along those lines.

Like most religions, Wicca has a form of deity. (Oh my goodness! And it's not Satan! Imagine that?!). There are many sects that believe in just a Goddess (those of the Dianic tradition), a Goddess and a God, one God with male and female attributes, etc. The list goes on, obviously, because people interpret deity differently. My beliefs on deity are that there is a Goddess and a God who make up the One, the One is All, and everything is the One. All Gods are One. I believe that deity comes to people in ways they will understand and be able to interpret it. For example, my interpretation is that we're all part of a life force. The energy from this force is around and in us all. The Goddess and the God are internal. I have created my image of deity for myself. But I do believe the One exists. My perception of the One however is to materialise it in a Goddess and God.

THE GODDESS
I love everything the Goddess stands for. She makes me feel unashamed to be a woman. The Goddess is the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. She is all that is young and naive, She is all that is old and wise. She is the Earth. She is the breath of life. She is the moon. Her womb is the ocean. We are born of Her. She is me. She is you. She is all because she is apart of the One and all are One. She is always there. She will always be there.

But like any Mother, She has a dark side. But we are not to live in fear of Her.

THE GOD
The God is loving. He is supportive and caring. He offers strength and guidance. He is the Sun. He is the animal spirit.

There is an excellent metaphor that I just thought of. The God is the Sun, the Earth is the Goddess. The Sun did not create the Earth. But it provides the light the Earth needs to create. They work together. That is the Goddess and God.
