While some visitors laze around in the sun at
Muri Beach another more famous long time resident Tom Neale from New Zealand found the
Cook Islands worth resting his bones at.
Tom Neale was known by some as the hermit of
Suwarrow - he lived around fourteen years on the island - wrote a book
called An Island to Oneself. He died in Rarotonga in 1977.
The photograph at right shows Tom's grave
- it is accross the street from the airport terminal near Avarua, Rarotonga
in the RSA cemetary.
