You know em. You've heard em a million times already.
Sure, they're great and all... and there's a whole bunch, but they're also all over the single player missions. And they sometimes just don't catch that certain attitude you wanna throw off. That special personality that is you... So what do you do?
Well, you could dress in a lil pink cheerleader outfit and dance in front of millions of people like Testcase, OR you could download these nifty new and original custom taunt packs! Brand new .WAVs carefully harvested and selected by your favorite Madman... no, not Mr. Magoo, ya maroon. TESTCASE!
Pincushion hacked up a copy of this old page (thanks to Testcase and The Internet Archive) and reconsituted it with his copies of most of the original taunt packs. This page and the things it points to are provided to you AS IS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE ANYTHING HERE IF YOU ARE A DUMBASS. Neither Pincushion nor Testcase (who doesn't even know this page has been resurrected) want to be bothered with your silly questions and problems. RTFM below. And no, new taunt packs are not being accepted. There are a few broken links in the HOWTO and TROUBLESHOOTING sections - the original files are missing. Descriptions for missing packs were removed, a few released after May 5 1999 were added.
MAY 05, 1999-
I've put together two more packs. One based on the Quentin
Tarantino flick, Reservoir Dogs. This is sort of a
serious chat pack. The other one is a collection of .WAVS
from the Three Stooges.
If you don't know who the Three Stooges are, go ask your parents.
I have no time to be generation-gapped by the likes of you!
Besides, a recent poll said more Americans could name the Three
Stooges than the three branches of Government... so you'd BETTER
know. There could be a test!
Valmoor has come up with another good Cybrid pack, this time
getting .WAVs from the old Doctor Who villians: the Daleks!
MAY 04, 1999-
Next up, Valmoor has compliled together nine chats from the ole
Battlestar Galatica series. They're all in Cylon voices that fit
the Cybrids very well. That's also in downloads.
Testcase is a worse player than Kamosa. (just checking to see if he's
paying attention when he cuts and paste this ;D)
First, from the "IMADUMBASS" file: The Taunt Pack 7 has some
.WAVs files that are apparently in the wrong format. Thanks to Pincushion
for catching and correcting. I've posted a "patch" (heh heh)
in downloads and updated the pack itself.
MAY 02, 1999-
The quickchat.cs included with the pack is geared to allow you to use
all the chats at once, using SHIFT+F1 through SHIFT+F5 to switch between
sets. It allows for a lot more communication within teams.
Pincushion has come up a new tauntpack of 24+ miscellaneous taunts from
various sources, like Aliens and the Terminator. Check them out!
And now for Something Completely Different, the newest pack
I have for release is not a taunt pack. It's a quickchat
pack geared for CTF players. I've basically pulled a set of chats
from TRIBES and have put together a script for them. I've used SQCGen
to generate five sets of nine chats, each set is geared towards either
offense, defense, orders, alerts, and general.
APRIL 30, 1999-
Of course, the Master Taunt List is updated to reflect these new packs.
Added two new tauntpacks entirely crafted by Yours Truly.
One is made entirely with .WAVs from Jim Carey's movie
The Mask and the other is a general collection from
various sources. Check Downloads to pick them up.
APRIL 29, 1999-
I'm expanding the HOWTO section to try
and make things a little clearer for people who are trying
to get the hang of editing the quickchat.cs file on their own
without using any proggies or whatnot. To this end, I've added
a blank quickchat.cs template to the Downloads,
it's already filled out with a pointer to taunts.vol, so it's
set to receive all the taunts you have (default and downloaded),
all you need to do is paste in the SAY statements included with
my tauntspacks. Check the HOWTO for more detail about this.
I'm also adding a Troubleshooting section
based off some of the mail I've gotten. ;)
Added a Starcraft Taunt pack created by Asmor.
These are .WAVs samples of the Dark Templar from Brood War
and I gotta say, they sound very Cybridish. Check out
Downloads to pick it up.
APRIL 26, 1999-
If you do pull down the Master List.txt, make sure to refresh your
cache so that you get the newest version. The current version contains
taunt listings for packs 1, 2, Army of Darkness, Holy Grail 1, Holy
Grail 2, Star Wars, South Park 1, Space Hulk, and South Park 2;
broken up into respective segments.
Added a second South Park Taunt Pack with another 27 new taunts from
South Park. Also, updated the master list with a correction for the
first SP Taunt Pack. It's missing one taunt from the text file:
Say( "Everybody", 1, "I'm not fat! I'm festively plump!.", "sp_plump.WAV" );
APRIL 23, 1999-
All the tauntpacks on this site (Created by me or not) will now
utilize the Starsiege Quickchat Generator (SQCGen). This handy
little utility was written by Pincushion, but don't send him email
at all hours. :) It's very very cool, as it will allow you to quickly
and easily whip up your own custom taunt lists and even allow you to
use more then the standard number of nine taunts during a game...
(oh... the horror) Check it out down on the
Downloads section. They'll still be easy to use even without
SQCGen, you just have to cut and paste a lil more.
Added three new packs: Star Wars by Sk8r, a Space-Hulk conversion from
Orogogus, and a South Park pack by lil ole me.
Spun the Taunts page off from the TFC site, so it'd be easier for
people to get to, instead of having to drill down through the
site. ;) Aren't I nice?
Starsiege's quickchats are the sound effects, mostly voices, you can send to other players by pressing Ctrl-F1 through Ctrl-F9. The bindings for the keys are defined in quickchat.cs. For instance the following lines:function QuickChat1() { Say( "TargetTeam", 1, "Excellent.", "M1_DM_excellent.WAV" ); }binds the text message "Excellent" and the sound file "M1_DM_excellent.WAV" to the CTRL-F1 key combo. To change the bindings you have to exit Starsiege, edit quickchat.cs in the x:/DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE/SCRIPTS, and then restart the game.
Two ways.
- The quickchat.cs file is stored in your x:/DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE/SCRIPTS directory. You can open it up with a flat-text editor like Notepad or whatever. It's important that whatever editor you use, that you keep the file in plain text format! The default quickchat.cs contains instructions for editing as well as a list of taunts from the game built in. You can tailor that one, or create one of your own. In either case, quickchat.cs is always the name of the file to be used.
Note:
If you make your own quickchat.cs from scratch, remember to include this neat the top before listing any chats:function InitQuickChat() { newObject( TauntsVol, SimVolume, "Taunts.vol" ); }If you don't add this in, you won't be able to hear any of the default taunts that people might have set up. I have made available a blank quickchat.cs with this line alredy included. It's all set for editing. It's rigged out to hold nine active chats bound to the default CTRL+F1 through CTRL+F9 keys, with the areas you need to edit clearly marked PASTE HERE. Download it. Pick out the nine taunts you want to use and copy the SAY statement, for example:Say( "TargetTeam", 1, "Excellent.", "M1_DM_excellent.WAV" );And paste it over the one of the nine PASTE HERE blocks. Once filled out, copy it to your x:/DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE/SCRIPTS directory, rename it to QUICKCHAT.CS, and you're good to go.
- Use the Starsiege Quickchat Generator to easily manage plain-old flat text files that will be interpreted and rendered into quickchat.cs.
The quickchat sounds are .WAV format files. Until we get the tools to edit .VOL files from Dynamix, we currently have to handle this the messy way: any .WAV files that you want to hear (from you or other people) must be placed into the x:/DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE directory. To use them yourself, you simply need to edit the quickchat.cs (or flat file, if you're using SQCGen, did I mention how much this proggie rocks?) to have the text you want displayed and the filename of the .WAV. Note: To hear your quickchat, the other players must have that same .WAV sitting in their Starsiege directory. Otherwise, they'll just see the printed text.
Second Note: Do not the name of your .WAV files with a number. SS will not play it.
NOTE: This only applies to issues with quickchat.cs or generic "What's wrong?" questions. It doesn't cover SQCGen or any other custom scripts, like Xac's quickchat script.
If you can see the taunt text getting sent, but do not hear the .WAV file being played, there are a couple things that can be wrong:
- The .WAV file is not in the x:/DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE directory.
ALL .WAV files used for taunts must be in this directory. You can confirm you have the right directory by looking for the file "taunts.vol". The .WAVs must in the same file as this directory.- The filename of the .WAV does not match the filename listed in quickchat.cs.
The .WAV filename listed for each taunt must match exactly its listing in the quickchat.cs. Do not change the filename in any way, even if you correct its listing in quickchat.cs to match. See "Other people can't hear my taunts."- The .WAVs file name begins with a number.
Any .WAV filename that begins with a number will not play. Early versions of Testtaunts packs 1 and 2 had this flaw. Download the Master List to correct the listing, and rename the .WAV filename to match (if necessary).
This usually signals a mistake in your quickchat.cs. In it default state, quickchat.cs binds the taunts to nine key combos (CTRL+F1 through CTRL+F9). Quickchat does this by defining the quickchat function like so:function QuickChat1() { Say( "TargetTeam", 1, "Excellent.", "M1_DM_excellent.WAV" ); }The important thing here is the function Quickchat1(). That little number one tells the script that this is meant to be mapped to the first quickchat here, which is, be default: CTRL+F1. When building your custom quickchat.cs script, you need to ensure that each function Quickchat line has a unique number, 1 through 9. So it ends up looking something like:function QuickChat1() { Say( "Everybody", 1, "Bang-Bang-Bang-Bang-Bang!", "badtaste4.wav" ); } function QuickChat2() { Say( "Everybody", 1, "Laugh while you can, Mon-Kee Boy!", "buckaroo2.wav" ); }Remember to comment out all the other taunts with //. Or create an entirely new quickchat.cs that only lists the active taunts you're using and keep the default quickchat.cs (renamed) as a reference.
The left CTRL key will not work on machines that are using GLIDE to provide their 3D acceleration. You can use the right CTRL key for that taunt, or you can also check the README.TXT that came with Starsiege to see what else they suggest. I use the right CTRL myself.
Make sure the quickchat.cs you're using has these lines near the top (before listing the taunts):function InitQuickChat() { newObject( TauntsVol, SimVolume, "Taunts.vol" ); }Get the quickchat template to use for building your own quickchat.cs files from scratch.
The filename that is being sent from you to them doesn't match anything they have, either in their /DYNAMIX/STARSIEGE directory as a .WAV file or in the compacted taunts.vol. This means:
- If they can't hear your custom taunt, then they may not have the necessary .WAV file needed. Point them to this page.
- The filename has either altered, either in your quickchat.cs or in their directory. You both should check against the master taunt list.
- If they can't hear any default taunts, point them to the above "I am not hearing any of the default taunts"
