The future of my Pen, Pencil, Crayon or Spray Can.
The choice to write poems in the future should be easy for me to make. Just needing a pad of paper from a drug store and a few pens or pencils, actually I’ll be writing more on computer word processing programs.
Playing the bass in the future and working on my wooden flute playing, bass playing, six string guitar, and singing should all improve the rhythm element in my poems.
Stanzas and the like structure as always seems to be fixed in our times. I know some people like to use the old forms like the sonnet or the haiku. I have been told by another cyber poet on Freenet that many different forms are described in the Encyclopedia of Poetry. I tend because of my mathematical bent and talent to use any counting whole number pattern that falls on the page. In my songs I try to copy the Lennon-MacCartney structure, favoring more simple word rhymes like me-be-free, and the number four, but this is limited.
I will be reading more poems from the past by great poets and the present from everybody but not wanting to cheat, I won’t copy too closely.
Images are a strong point to poetry and I am even now pushing my work to more nouns, objects, places that give colour and shape. I see shape in both colour and shadow in words.
Perhaps on this web site I will use a reply feature someday that could help me see what others find in my poems. It’s just a thought.
I can put poems up here at Geocities. I have been published at least once in a charity book and the same poem as been read on the radio. This poem was about mental health and homelessness as I experienced it. I love printed books so sometime this year(1998) my brother who has some publishing experience is going to publish a vanity book of the poems here on the site. He also through Timusk.com has created the Pete's Poetry site which sort of mirrors the site here.
I will continue to write as expression, hopefully mindful now of the affect the poems have on my life after writing. I have also spent a lot of time listening to Rock and Roll in various forms, including, pre rock and roll musics and post rock and roll musics which give my poems some attitude of being assertive.
I have read through social science, philosophy or science to determine my own individualism and place in the Western World. The philosophers, scientists, or leaders of other sphere’s of life and the Universe used to get my attention but now I tend to want stay in touch with real people. Not just people in books and on TV. I’d like to bring my poems back to love.
Also my poems continue to be inspired by vitamin therapy for mental illness.
I have belonged to a few rock groups in the late seventies with out being too stupid. Also this decade of the ninties, I have belonged to a few musical groups. Again working hard to make music that is good. Why can't I belong to a rock group in the even numbered decades?
Poetry comes from music, and when I got on the net, the first place I ventured was the on-line poetry world. I joined the National Capital Freenet cyber poets league.
Here is a links page to other poets and poetry information. I have belonged to a number of self help groups for psychiatric problems. Hopefully I will have some web links to these groups soon. These groups have published my work in the past in newsletters. I have also volunteered and worked in stage craft. Recently I have signed up to join the Council for Arts in Ottawa, who have a nice web site with plenty of local and international arts links for the web, and you may want to look at our site.
If you still haven't had enough of me please visit my Underground resume site and learn more about me, read more fiction by me and also look at the various arts volunteering I have done in Ottawa.
