From the moment she hit the stage, Ani had us on our feet. Ani opened the show with "Two Little Girls." It was obvious that the push behind Little Plastic Castles is over and that she's gearing up for her new album, which sources says will be named "Up Up Up Up Up Up." Ani followed "TLG" with three new tunes including "Angry Any More" but she wasn't finished there. We were treated to six new songs including "Hat Shaped Hat," "Virtue," and "up up up up up up" which had us all cheering. One of the tunes was written "while I was really, really high" she told us, "the only one that I've ever written like that." Ani followed her new ramblings with a funkish rendition of "32 Flavors" which she followed up with "Glass House," "Pixie," and "Pulse."
The verison of "Fuel" that she treated fans to on VH-1's Hard Rock Live had us going nuts. And just when we didn't think she could get any better, Ani had us up and moving with "Jukebox." She closed out the show with a high energy extended verison of "In or Out" and did "Little Plastic Castles" as her encore.
Of course, there were some great non-musical moments. Tales of her day at the swamp meet buying the orange socks that she was wearing. The story of her "pony" ride when she was in Arizona last year and the upcoming attempt at surfing the entire road crew was going to do in San Diego (the idea of someone back at the office in Buffalo). Perhaps the best moment occured when a new Ani fan screamed out "I love you, Annie!" and the entire house yelled back "ANI!!!"
Ani, we can't wait to have you back next year.
