I've always loved baking, and make all of my cakes from scratch, using only the finest ingredients-- cage-free eggs, butter, purees cooked from fresh fruit, etc. My interest in cake decorating started about four years ago, when I took a Wilton class at my local hobby store. Since then, I've taken a number of advanced classes on working with fondant and gum-paste, including classes taught by celebrity cake decorator Colette Peters, winner of the Food Network's first Wedding Cake Challenge. Colette was an amazing teacher, and I learned how to make trompe l'oeil cakes in her class, like the denim bag featured on the right, as well as handbags, golf bags, etc. I'm based in Northern California, in the Tri-Valley area (Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and Dublin), where I spent many years working in the software industry.
