Waylaid on the Road to Riches

butterflylUnder the Bamboo Tree!! butterflyl

Just to clarify for those who are completely confused by this little excerpt: these are the opening lyrics to a delightul ditty, "Under the Bamboo Tree" ("One live as two, two live as one, Under the bamboo tree"). It's a song featured in that perennial favorite "Meet Me in St. Louis," in which it receives a stirring rendition by Judy Garland and a very young Margaret O'Brien.

"Under the Bamboo Tree" has a special place in the hearts of the Waylaid authors, as it was during a production of "Meet Me in St. Louis" (which Chris directed and in which Kay appeared) that their long-standing friendship was truly cemented.

Indeed, it was during that production that Chris imposed upon Kay the rather taxing duty of playing the accompaniment to the opening verse of "Bamboo" on an onstage piano. And she almost always got it right.
