Waylaid on the Road to Riches

owlHotdish!! owl

Hotdish is actually a Minnesotan dish, and not an Iowan dish, but since we have the recipe, we just have to throw it in.

Hotdish is a hearty and flavorful casserole type food. To make it, you need a casserole dish, Cream of Mushroom soup (you must always have Cream of Mushroom soup), and any other odds and ends that you may have lying about the house. . .breakfast cereal, hot dogs, Nilla wafers, Cream of Tartar, whatever.

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Pour the contents of the bowl into the casserole dish. If you want to get terribly fancy, sprinkle Corn Flakes on top. Bake for one hour at 375 degrees. Enjoy.

Actually, this recipe is only a slight exaggeration. . .you basically do put anything in to it. One of the Waylaid authors has dined on hotdish which contained (and I'm not kidding, gentle readers) Kraft macaroni and cheese, frozen peas, uncooked Stove Top Stuffing, Cream of Mushroom soup, cocktail wieners, and corn flakes.

Experiment in your own home. I think they have a hotdish bake-off every winter in Minnesota, too.
