Sitcom by Mark Saunders

April 1, 2000, presented as part of the Northwest Playwrights Guild April Foolery Showcase at the Imago Theatre.

Nicole Turley
Michael Teufel
Dan Cook
Moira Keller

THANKS -- April Magnusson and Teresa Celsi.

SYNOPSIS. Man walks into a bar and begins a bizarre mating ritual with a woman sitting at the bar. The ritual consists mostly of witty banter and the two characters trying to one-up each other.

PRODUCTION NOTES. Very fun, short and sweet project...A comedy, which was welcome after Eye of God. Rehearsals consisted mostly of drinking coctails and smoking out the window of Michael's apartment. One time we actually took it to a bar, but it was too loud to hear dialogue and get any kind of audience response. We had one tech rehearsal. This played with seven other shows on the same day, and all the tech for all the shows was performed by the same person, Rex Jantze...In other words, we had to keep it pretty simple.

Mollusk by Trista Baldwin

June 12th and 15th, 2000, presented as part of PSU's Year 2000 Estrogen Festival in PSU's Studio Theatre. This, along with Moira Keller's production of The Dianalogues comprised the premier production for our newly formed Abstract Productions.

Starring Nicole Turley as Iris
and Ingrid Carlson as Nancy

THANKS -- Moira Keller.

SYNOPSIS. Two heart-friends, after a summer apart, reunite one afternoon for lunch, but when they try to have a conversation, they don't really connect. The time away from each other has changed one of them, namely Nancy. She's now an enlightened, purple-clad, New Age vegetarian and self-help guru. And a little nuts, as well. But by the time Iris realizes, it's too late. Nancy has Iris in her clutches, and she's going to teach her a little lesson about good eating habits.

PRODUCTION NOTES. This was fun. Ingrid and Nicole are always a joy to work with, and though comedies aren't my favorite thing, this original short was a real gem. Circumstances were slightly similar to the production process in Sitcom...rehearsals in Nicole's apartment, except we once took it to a restaurant, but kept it rather subdued. One tech rehearsal. Sound was run by Erik Rose. I used two unusual tracks from Coil's Stolen and Contaminated album to create that Twilight Zone atmosphere with a comic tinge. Finished product was a delight.
