Bardman Tales

- Tell me a bedtime story, grandpa

- A story? I'd be glad to, granddaughter. What story do you want to hear?

- Tell me about Bardman!

- Oh dear, another Bardman story? I think you've heard them all

- Pleeeeease?? Tell me about his past

- Well, there is the tale of his lute...

- Yay!

- As you know, Bardman wields the Requiem. A lute with the melody of life and death imbibed in its strings. But it was not always thus, he had to undergo many challanges and face many a foe to claim the lute as his own...

*And so the tale began*

- Bardman stood before his fallen opponent, holding a shattered harp in his hands

- The Tentacle was a worthy foe, it took quite a fight to defeat his ilk. Though the job was done, alas, the price was my instrument. I must gain a new harp... or perhaps a lute...

- And so, he searched, high and low, near and far

- Sir? Do you have a harp I might use on my crusade for justice?

- Bardman! Alas, as you are aware, none have crafted a harp for some time. There is not enough demand to make it a worthwhile venture

- A great shame is the ignorance of most bards. If they could only hear the notes as do I... Thank you, fair merchant, I shalt tarry here no longer

- Wait...! There is a tale among my guild, stories of a legendary lute. Surely you could wrest it from the evil clutches of whatever fiend now grasps it

- Thou canst mean...?

- Aye, the REQUIEM

- The gold color alone told Bardman that there was more to this lute than myth. He learned all that he could from the merchant and went on his way to claim it. His path lead him to the deep forest of Dampleaf

- Halt, humans are not welcome in our wood

- Stand aside, I am on a quest of the highest importance. I shan't let a bothersome imp stand before me

- Oh ho, well said, sir; but I won't be the one to block your path

- That would be me

- Neither shall a bothersome behemoth turn my steps. If thou dost value thy life, monster, clear the way

- Big words for a little bard, HRAWH!

- The beast charged Bardman, but the masked minstrel was too quick for him. He leapt over the monster's head to land upon its back. With a harp string he reigned the beast and turned it to his desired trek

- Argghff...! Ged uff!

- But try as it might, the behemoth could not dislodge his rider

- I shall bartter with thee

- Bardman replied in complete calm

- Take me to the innermost circle of this forest and I shall release thee unharmed

- With no other choice apparant, the creature rushed though the forest to a place even it dreaded to tread. On the rim of a sacred circle of pines he stopped, refusing to travel further

- Very well, beast, begone then

- Bardman was as good as his word, and hopped down to the ground, releasing his steed

- Hah, I would stomp you now, but as you plan to enter the most hated's domain, I shall let him bring about your long and painful demise

- So saying, the monster charged away. But his words held no fright for Bardman, who strode into the enchanted circle undaunted

- I seek the holder of Requiem! Show thyself and judge me as its rightful wielder

- Sss... foolish bard, you can not defeat me ssso long as I ussse my magnetic field!

- The Dark Elf summoned forth his power, drawing all metals towards him. But bardman wore no armor, he felt only a slight tug from his belt

- Thou must come up with more than this, fiend. Hand over the lute or face my wrath

- Har-har! An unarmed bard threatensss me? Perhapsss if you had a harp, it might disssrupt my magicsss, but without it you are at my mercssy

- Come then, show me thy strength

- The fight was long and hard, I won't go into detail because that would be far too exciting. The warriors fought to a stand still, neither gaining the upper hand. Bardman felt fatigue reach lethargically for him, and knew that he must find another method of attack

- Sss... who will tire firssst, fool? Thisss grove is my cssenter of power! Your bonesss will join thossse othersss who chossse to risssk my wrath

- Thou art mighty indeed, however justice stands upon my side of the field

- So saying, Bardman removed from his belt the metalic darts he had fashioned. They were in the shape of musical sharps, and the pale moon shone upon their razor edges

- Thou wishest to draw all metal in? Than take these as well! *flings the sharps at the Dark Elf*

- What...? NOOOOOO!

- The darts struck the Dark Elf harder than any man could throw them, they severed his limbs and left him a gory heap

- *strides forth and recovers the death lute Requiem* Yes, with this instrument at my disposal, all villains shall learn to fear the name of... BARDMAN!

- This would have been a more impressive speech if only there had been someone around to hear it

- YAY! GO BARDMAN GO!

- And so ends my tale, now get to sleep you brat!

- Aw, poo
