This Months Special Feature

I received an image from Chris Varner a few days ago, and after a quick glance I kind thought it was just a normal routine image, especially for a person of Chris' photographic skills. Later I went back and took another look. Hmmm, not sure about this being "routine" !   A quick email to Chris requesting enlightment -G-, on how it was done, got a reply of   "Guess".  Never been good at guessing games and I didn't even come close on this one.  Maybe you can do better!  Think so ? {the ole hawk said with a smile}  Here's the known facts....This image is an original single exposure   chrome, with no computer manipulations or any other kind of tricks involved.  Gosh, there are a lot of Mesquite trees in Texas !

OK, the ball is in your court ! How did Chris produce this image?  I lost a little resolution resizing it for this page, but it is close enough for this purpose. Send your answers email to me.  Be sure to include your true name or 1st name along with the state you live in.  I will probably post some of them below, if time allows.     ...Greyhawk

Howdy,

After a couple of seconds I thought, no big deal - just an open doorway pouring light into a dusky setting.  But what does he mean its unordinary? Ahh, there is a shadow from the mesquite seemingly cast by the moon into the patch of light.  Hmmmm, no special tricks, no blue sheets of plastic... ah, it doesn't seem quite right for this but does that look like a far canyon wall in the dark part of the image with the mesquite growing on the near edge? Nah, I think I'll brighten the image, yup, its just grassland. Ohhhhh, that sneak has an unseen object(mesquite) on the left casting its shadow into the light.   Time,one minute, getting old.

Hi!
  I think it is a car's headlight falling onto the patch in front, the shadow would be of a tree in front of the car. Right?
Do reply-
I am Numrata(New Delhi, India)

Yes, you are right, but the shadows are all from the rough terrain and vertically low source.

Answer By Chris;

35--80mm Canon lens; Fuji Velvia rated ISO 40; exposure f/16 at 30 seconds. Ground lighting by GMC headlights on bright.

Additional Note... It was after the sun had gone down, and of course the full moon helped.
