Greyhawk, I like the two elks buttin antlers. I also have seen such
fighting in the Rocky Mountain National Park a few years ago. My wife and I
watched with glasses for several minutes as two bucks trumpeted at each other, then
fought. A fine image.

Answering these 4 and many others that are simular as a Group
Mr. Snipes,
I wonder if you could tell me what steps are necessary in becoming a professional
photographer. I would love to travel the country photographing wildlife and nature. I have
always enjoyed the outdoors and nature and I was wondering if it is necessary to take
courses or is it something that you just have an eye for? How does one go about getting a
job doing what
you're doing?
Thank you,
Ken Ferguson
Hello, I am a student looking for info on wildlife photography. This isan
area of great interest to me, and I would like to get some advice about it. How do I go
about it and what are the best kinds of cameras to use, and are there any other contacts
you could recommend? Some of those shots you took looked really difficult. How do you do
it without scaring the animals? I would appreciate any information on this.
Thanx,
Mindy Todd
Hi,
Okay I'm just writing referring to photography as a career. I am now a senior in my last year of highschool and I've been thinking of college and all and what interests me is photography-that is nature and wildlife photography.I have a very strong interest in it but though am am not all that familiar with it. I would appreciate it if you could send me any info regarding this e-mail. A couple questions I have. Does a photographer always develop their own film and is the process hard to learn-(developing your own that is) and well i guess thats it i was just majorly wondering about photographer as a career-any special experience needed and is the career for just anyone?Okay i guess then thats it-No need to reply soon whenever you got the spare time is fine-
Thanks,
Larissa-
Hello there...
I just wanted to comment on the incredible photographs that appear on this site. I was wondering if you could give me some information and advice as to how I can get started in the wide world of nature photography...I am a Biology Student now and I think that taking pictures would be my greatest love...any help you could give me I would appreciate...also, could you tell me what you think of this picture I took in Northern Greece? Just want to see what a professional thought...thanks a lot.
Andrew McGraw
First let me thank you for the email, for your nice comments and confidence in what advice I might give.
As you might guess from the tardiness of posting this email, plus still haven't got the links page put together, that time is very short on my end. No matter how much I want to and would like to, I just don't have the time to critique images and to give lesson's by email. In all fairness, I couldn't answer one and not all of them.
For all of you
that have aspirations of becoming a nature photographer, please read my "November Editorial" with the basic
starting off tips page linked to it. Before you can pick any field in photography, you
must learn the basics of photography and get to know your equipment. This can be done from
schools, library books and many other ways. One of the best books on Nature Photography
that I have ever seen and a must if you want to do serious nature photography, is ....
"The Nature Photographers Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques" by
John Shaw. This book has a lot of "his great images" illustrating the
excellent tips and technical info he has in it.
As to critiques of images, lessons and places to associate with peers or get
help, hopefully I will soon get time to complete the links page, which will have all these
places listed, along with information on them. Also we will be giving helpful hints and
advice in features and editorials as much as we can. --Greyhawk

Greyhawk,
Thanks for a great evening. Came home feeling low and found your site. It was the best
internet experience I ever had. My Minolta and zoom are in seven feet of mud at the bottom
of Elkhorn Slough, a seasonal estuary in Monterey Bay. It has been three years. You
have inspired me to get over it, buy another camera and get back at it ! Thanks. - Don
Thats "Great News" Don.
Get back on that horse like I did, and enjoy the challenge of nature photography!

I just happened to visit your website. Very impressive pictures. I was
just wondering if you did any of editing with Photoshop. Sometimes I think you don't
really have to take good pictures, you can just edit it anytime with photoshop and puff !
you're a professional photographer. But you know what, i'm not a computer worshiper and i
think we still need gifted photographers like you. Well, keep up the good work !

Hi Jungmin. Thank you for the email

Dear Sir, madam...
My name is Ajaz Ali, I am 26, from Islamabad Pakistan. I have done masters in computer
science and working as Manager MIS with a multi-national.
I love photography also. I got a chance to visit your site. This is a great effort and I
really appriciate it.
But I have one observation, that the pictures put on here are not very excellent, even I
can do better photography then that, though I don't have any professional equipment and
skills or much experience. I suggest that you should improve your criteria to select the
photos.
I appriciate your efforts once again.
Thanks.

Ajaz, thank

forward to receiving some of your images for the guest page in order to improve our

Sorry, out of time to answer individually now, so will post email with a big "Thanks to all"!
First of all, I want to say what a fabulous find your web site is.
Entertaining to read and a joy to surf. Excellent work, and I plan on frequenting it
often, in addition to the msn newsgroups.
Re: the preferred format of the photo, I liked aspects of both, and I too couldn't
decide. I like the vertical format because its shape echoes the shape of the
waterfall. I like the horizontal ("landscape") photo because it somehow
makes the image appear more rich & full of texture. As someone who honeymooned
in the PNW, I guess I'm a bit biased toward this image; Olympic NP is truly a gem!
Re: Oct. Image of the Month.
Loved it!" That about says it all.
We have red fox here in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, believe it or not. They are truly beautiful and magnificent creatures.
All my best,
Toni McLellan, Chicagoan, nature lover and photographer wannabe

Greyhawk,
I love the sight. All the photos are top notch making me get my butt in
gear and get out and start shooting. There is one bit of constructive criticism if
you don't mind. For those of us that like to skip around the site, is there any way
you could display the pages that have already been viewed. I'm sure you know what
I'm talking about , a different color link is usually displayed for the places that were
already visited. That's all I can think of.

You have an excellent web site. The best I have seen. You have some
very nice images. Glad to see you are promoting the PSA version of Nature. I believe I
have some images worthy of including in your web site.In 1995 in PSA tabulation I was
listed as the #1 Nature Exhibiter in North America. I like the inclusion of the
music in the program. Keep up the good work.
John L Krell APSA
Coming from you, that is very flattering. Thank you very much, John. We are looking forward to seeing your images and will feel honored to have them displayed on this site. ____________________________________________________________________________

I like the idea of people submitting picture...i was wondering if there
was a way to give feedback to the people who do submit pictures?...I am interseted in
submitting some picture someday (need to get them scanned)
anyways i was just curious...
shanice_01@
Yes Shanice. I routinely forward
all email to the regulars on the photographers page and will do the same for guest.
That is unless it gets out of hand, and then I will have to come up with a better idea. I
don't post email addresses unless requested, being as some people do not want their
address made public. If you are thinking about critiques on images, I do not intend to do
that on this site. A good place for image critiques is on Bob Atkins site. I will warn you
in advance that these are 'state of the art' photographers and can get very rough on
images submitted. For any of you that may want to check it out, here is the link.

Hello,
Thank you for showing these wonderful
pictures. I have enjoyed them very much, and downloaded some to use as wall paper on
my desktop. I do wish however, that the captions under the thumbnail pictures were
easier to read.
Thanks again,
Lloyd D. Morris
Thank you Lloyd. Also, you bring up a good point. I have become spoiled using a 17 inch monitor, and wasn't thinking about the smaller ones left out there. Can't make larger print fit under the thumbnails, but am trying out something that may help. Hold your mouse pointer over the thumbnails I uploaded on my page today and see if that doesn't you help out. I am going to start giving the description on all the thumbnail popups. Will go back and change the ones already there if I ever get the time. -Greyhawk __________________________________________________________________________
Hi Greyhawk,
You are the BEST!!! THANK YOU for a job well done!!! I can't even describe how grateful I
am to have discovered such a beautiful, serene and tranquil website ~ now I know where to
turn to after a stressful day or should I say on any given
day..."ahh,ahh,ahh...nature take me away"!!! Greyhawk keep up the
beautiful work and keep it coming!!! GOOD LUCK with all your endeavors!!!
THANK YOU again!
Sincerely,
Catherine
Thanks Mom ! {LOL ... Couldn't
resist that.} Thank you very much, Catherine. We will keep striving to make
this site a very pleasant place for all the people from around the world to visit often.

Hi there!
I just happened to drop into your photography page today, and I must say that I am preety
impressed! Thank You Tom!
My name is Tom Doungdet Jaithuie, Living in Australia. I'm preety keen on photography -
but still not sure if I'm good enough to have my pics hang in your gallery. I only took
photography seriously (as my main hobby)2-3 years ago. So seeing a page like your keep me
inspired.
There are a few points, though, that I'd like to make:
1. You have serveral sub-pages, but only a few pics in there, are you planning to expand
it? (don't be upset - the pics you've got are extremely good!).
Are you sure you went to the right pages? We
currently have around 150 images on this site.
<BG> The main gallery is on the "Photographers Page". We have only been up
a couple months and so the archives only contain a few that I threw in just to have
something there. The archives will eventually be filled with images from the Photographers
pages as we rotate them out. Go
to the info page each time you visit site and it will tell you what's new and where.
2. I'd like to see a page for close up photography. I couldn't do it myself, so I'm
nagging on you :)
We don't plan a page dedicated to the subject, but
there is & will be macro nature images on the site. For example, I know I put a spider and a caterpillar in the
"Other" archives.
3. What do I have to do to have my pics on your page?
Go to "Photographers Page", then
"Guest Page" and follow the instructions.
Best wishes and hope to hear from you soon.
Tom
Thanks for writing from "down under", Tom.

Just wanted to say thanks for the pictures and the information about taking some of the
pictures. The camera, really is a great tool in our hands to have fun and to teach
information as well. I am a full time mom, and when I get the time to get out and
snap some pictures of this area, I will try to put
into practice what I have gain form this site. Keep it Going!
Yours in Shooting ! Donna Miller, Northern MN.
Thank you Donna. We definitely will try to keep it going with images, info and fun. ___________________________________________________________________________
Your page is great. I really loved it. The photo's were awesome. The music is tough. It brings backs tons of memories of growing up in the late sixties and early seventies, even if it is only music. Again I really, really like you page. I will be coming back to it. Bye. Athardraig.
Thank You. We have had
various opinions on the music. I don't have many midi files at present. {BG}

Mary, I would hope that all people are concerned over these thoughtless acts that are causing so much harm. _____________________________________________________________________________________

It's going to be a nice site. Awfully sad music, though.
I live in a place where you have to be careful not to trip on the way to the mailbox, or you'll be covered with vegetation before you can get up. The birds around here are so many and so loud you sometimes have to yell to be heard. I forget that this isn't the case everywhere, but I also keep track of species =removed= from the endangered species list, and try to stay optimistic. Things are much better than they were in the '70s in many respects.
Thanks Sarah...Guess you know that
your home turf is making a lot of nature photographers envious.

Hi Lee
Saw that you decided to post my images. Sorry about that "boat" shot but the
info on your homepage seems to indicate that you only object to images that have been
manipulated. I had not thought that you were one of those folks who feel that
"man" (people) are an abomination to nature. Perhaps we get a different
perspective here in the Eastern Megalopolis where you practically feel you are in a
wilderness area anytime grassy areas are more predominant than asphalt. With all due
respect to Chuck Darwin, I believe that "man" was created by God and is as much
a part of the natural world as any ring-tailed hawk or mountain meadow. I look for
situations that show the vastness and beauty of nature AND some sign that man has been on
the scene and hasn't managed to screw it up. But, as you are "one of those" who
abhor any sign of man's involvement with
(or even existance in) the natural world, I apologize for sending shots that were
objectionable.
Still like the site, though. Keep up the good work.
Barry
Thanks for the comments Barry. Not being sure what you mean by ""one of those"", etc., I will give you the real short version here. About 80 to 90 % of the "serious Nature Photographers" are involved or have been involved or will be involved with nature & wildlife camera clubs and/or competition at some point in time. This means PSA rules. Being as this is a Nature site, and these are the people I am trying to reach and/or get involved in the site, I decided it best to more or less follow these rules even though I can put up &/or not put up anything that I choose, when I choose. {g} It is also good for the people new to nature photography to get their feet wet, by being exposed to this controversial subject. In the near future I will cover the pros and cons of this, plus much more, and in full detail on the editorial page. Also Chris Varner will probably write an editorial on this subject at some point in time. Again, thank you for writing and expressing your opinions.
