Musical Influences

More Obscure Stuff

I know, Emmylou Harris is NOT obscure. Well, not any MORE. But there was a time . . . I remember playing a little club in Madison, Wisconsin (a place called "The Church Key"), and the next night, Emmylou played. This was, maybe, 1977. Sure, she had a few records out, and had gained a following, but nothing like today. I still refuse to accept her as the "queen" of country music. To me, she will always be a secret sweetheart. That I am not alone doesn't bother me in the least.

What's that? Bonnie Raitt isn't obscure, EITHER? Well, duh! But do YOU have a copy of Streetlights on VINYL? In mint condition? In those days, it was not uncommon for her to appear on stage with ONE sideman, Freebo . . . who played TUBA! But never mind Luck of the Draw or Nick of Time. Go for Give It Up, the aforementioned Streetlights, or Takin' My Time. As far as recent releases, I highly recommend Road Tested. She deserves every standing ovation she gets, lately. She's earned it.
