Colorado Sunset Aspen clad canyons capture shadows, mustang clouds gallop, chasing disappearing blue beyond shadowed peaks. Windmills stand at ease. Riding down pine needle paths, searching for strays, I watch scattered shadows sneak silently to surprise scurrying light. Hungry hawk screeches above. Shades of pink, orange and purple linger amongst snow horizons. In the distance a bird of unknown identity whistles repeated notes. I wonder if she's singing a lullaby to her young or relaying a message that the day is fading. Cricket choirs begin chirping as I ride towards home. Darkness grips the last strings of light, summer sun melts under a blanket of stars. --- by David Segrest, Texas Tech Univeersity
