The Dragon’s Tail

I climbed a mountain yesterday, to see what I could see.

To my surprise, with widened eyes, a dragon spoke to me.

He said, “Come on in, have a drink, pull you up a chair.”

“I don’t have many visitors, do you think it’s my lair?”

“I’ve changed the artwork on the walls, to make it not so scary.”

“I even knocked out one of them, to make it seem more airy.”

“I’ve invited the whole village here, to have a cup of tea,

But you are the only visitor, thanks for seeing me.”

“I’d like to give a gift to you, before the visit ends,

Anything you want or need, and may I call you friend?”

Now I should tell you, this was strange, I was at a loss for words.

It’s always been a dream of mine to fly around like birds.

I have seen this world of ours, from car, and boat, and rail,

But it never looked more beautiful, than from the dragon's tail.

So if you climb a mountainside, and chance upon his kind,

Don’t be afraid to say “Hello”, open your heart and mind.

Offer him your hand to shake, your conversation too.

He’s a living creature, the same as me and you.
