An artwork Mural Message to Governor Clinton

Dear "President" Clinton... was based on an the idea of sending a message to our democratic system. It was painted with the help of UCI's advanced mural class and other students for the visit of Bill Clinton to Orange County. He was scheduled to speak at UCI, but plans changed. The mural went up and the democratic party wanted to move it to follow him, but due to bad weather and lack of time, never followed up on it.

It was meant to comment on how things had changed since the graduation of Bill Clinton and the problems we Students are faced with today. By addressing him as "President" Clinton, we were saying we support him, but have our eye on him , and question his commitments too. the red paint obliterating the KKK in Amerikkka speaks the words of Jesse Jackson who was forgotten by the democratic party, and who we felt should have been recognized.

A UCI Sociology Professor tried to have our mural removed, because he felt we soiled the name of America by mentioning the KKK in the name of America. This added a new aspect to the piece. The paper trail of Professor Novaco's repeated attempts to censor our work almost overwhelmed it, and people who had not seen the work were given the opportunity to think about it due to the publicity generated.
