Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream
For the most part, I am faithful to Ben & Jerry's ice cream,
for several reasons: First and foremost, they're an
excellent company, in terms of giving a percentage of their
profits to worthy causes; they treat their employees well; I
like their approach to business in general; and they have
fantastic ice cream. Plus I've been eating more of it lately
because the long-distance company I use keeps sending me
free coupons for pints. Yum yum.
Holy Cannoli
I wouldn't have bought this flavor under normal
circumstances, because I don't really care for cannoli, but
the coupon I was sent specified this Feature Flavor. Who am
I to turn down free ice cream? This flavor has vanilla ice
cream with pistachios and chunks of cannoli in it. I like
the pistachios. They're green and chewy, which is fun to
experience with the pure vanilla ice cream. The cannoli, not
so much. As I said, I don't like cannoli in the first place,
and this is frozen cannoli. I find it hard to bite into and
not worth the hassle. It's dark chocolate, which isn't my
favorite, surrounding sweet ricotta cheese. Eh. It's taken
me weeks, and I'm still not finished with this pint. I
just have a few spoonfuls to satisfy my ice cream cravings,
and then I put it back, because I'm not enjoying it that
much. I have a feeling this Feature Flavor won't become a
regular. But hey, it's always worth a try -- where would
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough be without that?
Chocolate Fudge Brownie
Now THIS is more my speed. No, it's not a Feature Flavor --
it's been around for awhile -- but it's my favorite flavor.
With fudge brownies tucked into perfect chocolate ice cream,
two of my favorite desserts come together in a beautiful way
to make me oh-so-happy. I always have to have a wipe-down
with a wet paper towel after I eat this stuff. You get the
idea.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
This is Ben & Jerry's number one flavor, and with good
reason. Delicious vanilla ice cream with chunks of yummy
cookie dough dispersed throughout make it a fun, sugary, and
rewarding ice cream experience. I think the reason it's not
my favorite is that when Cookie Dough was still a Feature
Flavor, I ate way too much of it. I sincerely ate a pint of
the stuff every few days for an entire summer. I couldn't
get enough of it. At one point, I couldn't find it in the
stores -- it was gone. I wrote Ben & Jerry a frantic letter
asking what had happened. I got a nice, hand-signed letter
back from one of their representatives, telling me that the
cookie dough was harder to get into the ice cream than other
things, and demand was outweighing supply at the moment.
(They were right -- within a week, it was back in my store.)
In with that nice letter were two Ben & Jerry's refrigerator
magnets. I just love those guys.
