The English Patient
The English Patient

I saw the dramatic commercials for this movie, and I had been told I had to see it. Never a good sign, in my opinion. I figured it was one of them foreign films, like "Sense and Sensibility," which I wasn't crazy about. I can only take so much artsy fartsy stuff, and then I have to call it quits. I have to be honest -- I'm no great intellect, and I get bored easily. I like action. "Thelma and Louise" is one of my all-time favorite movies.

To be honest, I was feeling rather randy when I saw "The English Patient," which I'm sure helped. There's nothing like a romantic, teeming saga to get your motor running when you already feel like finding a cute boy and kissing him. And man, this movie was a saga. The desert! Hurting love! War! Death! It had it ALL. It was a beautiful movie. Lots of orange lighting and great legs. I love great legs, boy-oh-boy.

Sarah (who I saw the movie with; she had already seen it) said it was kind of depressing, but I didn't find it that way at all. I got wrapped up in the story. I'm still wrapped up in it, actually. I want to go back and hang out in the desert getting sand in my teeth and riding around in rickety trucks. My favorite scene was when Kip took Hana to the church to look at the paintings. It was soooo beautiful, and what girl wouldn't want a boy to fling her into the air with a flare to look at paintings in the dark of night? (Rent it and see for yourself.)

I can't go into the plot, because I'd give something away, and nothing should be given away. Suffice it to say that it's a wonderful saga, and everyone should see it on a big screen if they can.
