Priscilla
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

I was disappointed by this movie. I wasn't even in the mood to rent it, but I had heard how great it was, so I figured I'd probably end up enjoying it. One of those it'll-be-good- for-me decisions.

The first 45 minutes, it couldn't hold my interest. I kept thinking it must be one of the those "Well, it's about drag queens, therefore it's fascinating and a good movie." Not much was going on, though. Lots of scenes of colorful dresses blowing in the desert wind. Ho, hum. I turned it off and watched "20/20." The next day I turned it back on, mostly because I was bored.

Once the three main characters got going to some interesting places and we found out a little more about the guy who was once married, the movie picked up speed. Actually, a scene with ping-pong balls is worth the price of admission. You who've seen it know what I'm talking about. I couldn't have thought that up if I lived to be 180 years old.

I loved all the father-son stuff and there were a couple of really sweet, sentimental, all-that-matters-is-that-people- love-and-respect-one-another scenes that got me misty, but frankly, I was a little disappointed by the trite, happy ending. I dunno. There was great music, but this movie just wasn't enough for me.
