Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion
I can't say I remember Mira Sorvino from anything, although I'm familiar with her name. She is so cute in this movie. She's got this funky accent and a sort of blank look about her that I found very appealing. Lisa Kudrow plays Phoebe from "Friends," only her name is Michelle. Or Romy. I don't remember who is who.
These two are a nutty pair of best friends who have been living together since high school. An example of the kind of exchanges they have are things like, "Have you lost weight?" and the other one says, "Actually, I've been on a diet of Pez and candy corn." "You're so lucky," the other replies, "I wish I had your self-control." I am taking liberties with the script here, since I don't remember exactly what was said.
Anyhoo, it's a cute movie, with some really sweet, funny scenes. It's also a little weird, especially after they get to the reunion and people continue to be mean to them. Even though they get the last laugh, it's uncomfortable to watch. I don't know if high school was a great experience for anyone, and watching someone go back is sort of torturous. At least, it is for me.
P.S. Janeane Garafalo was way over the top in this, but I loved her.
