AN AMERICAN DENTIST IN LONDON Epilogue: Friends of Healing "So you’re feeling better today, Kitty? I was worried when Moira said you didn’t want any visitors…." Meggan trailed. "Yes, I certainly am," Kitty smiled weekly. "So, how’s Brian?" "Oh, Brian is fine," Meggan explained. "He’s off to Tokyo to explore some new form of medicine or something. I don’t know. Sometimes I get bored when talks and goes on and on and I just wind up nodding at him….." Meggan grinned, trying to add a little humor to her sentence. "I guess I should pay more attention!" Kitty smiled, this time for real. "And how’s Pete?" Kitty cleared her throat and mumbled. "Pete?" Meggan looked at the wall, trying to act normal. "Well, Pete….he’s good. Yeah, he’s doin okay." Both of the girls attention was drawn to yelling outside the room. "You’ll let me in there NOW, Moira, or I’ll do things to you that you’d NEVER be able to imagine!" Pete shouted. "Pete! Look, I told ye, ONE visitor at a time! What part of that did ye nae understand?! Wait yer turn!" Moira shouted back. "I don’t want to wait me turn! I want to see me bleetin girlfriend, and I don’t think I need your permission for that!" Pete screamed. "Could you open the door for me, Meggan?" Kitty inquired, grinning. "I would love to," Meggan smiled, getting up and opening the door. Moira and Pete got a surprised look on their faces and they paused. "Perhaps, Moira, he and Meggan could both visit me? I’d like that a lot," Kitty gushed. Moira blushed. "Well, lass…" "Humph," Pete snorted as he triumphantly walked by Moira and shut the door. His eyes focused on Kitty and his face changed to show his deep concern for her. He ran to the seat next to her bed. "How are ya, Pryde? Doin’ okay?" Pete worried, putting his hands on hers. "I’m fine, Pete," Kitty puzzledly answered. "But why are you wearing jeans? And a T-shirt? And why are they both mine?" "Uh….well," Pete murmured. "That soddin dragon of yours stole all me clothes and hid 'em, and he switched 'em with yours. I didn’t think you’d mind if I borrowed a thing or two….." "Aren’t those girl’s pants?" Meggan butted in. "No!" Pete denied, an expression of fierce determination forming on his face. "These are men’s pants! Trust me! What, you think I’d be mean to my Lil’ Jack Horner?!" Meggan and Kitty burst into laughter at Pete’s determinant protection of his "Lil’ Jack Horner." "That’s one way to put it, Pete!" Kitty blurted out, giggling. "I need a drink," Pete sighed, taking his bottle of whiskey out of his pocket and sitting back in his chair. He unscrewed the top and drunk a long, deep gulp of his whiskey only to get a surprised look on his face. He spit it out immediately and continued spitting, spitting a white, gooey, dense liquid all over Kitty’s blanket. The liquid dribbled down his lips, chin, and all over his chest. "What the fuck?!" Kitty and Meggan were drawn to unending laughter again, Meggan nearly falling to the floor, and Kitty noticed her ears were beginning to tear. Over the undeniable sounds of laughter, Pete yelled, "Who the ‘ell put SHAMPOO in me whiskey?!" His statement only made things worse for the girls, and he stood up and walked to the other side of the room. "All right, that’s it. I don’t care if you’re sick, you’re bein mean, and I’m gonna have me a fag." Pete pulled his cigarettes out and lit one up, only so it could quickly lite up and burn the whole thing on fire. Flailing his hands around that got burn from holding the fire, the "cigarette" fell to the floor. "What the ‘ell?!?!?!?" Kitty and Meggan were reduced to laughter once again, tears quickly falling down both their cheeks. Pulling the rest of his cigarettes out, Pete noticed that the middle of the cigarettes were replaced with brown paper, so it became basically paper on paper, and that was why it had burned so easily and quickly. "What the ‘ell? Wait a soddin minute, where’s that bloody dragon? I want his head for dinner! Lockheed? Where are you?!" With his cigarettes still in his hand, he opened the door. Moira turned around from where she was talking to Rahne and saw Pete. "Peter Wisdom! Ye would go so far as to smoke in front of one of my patients, let alone yuir girlfriend?! Have ye gone mad?!" Moira screamed. She ran over to him, grabbing the cigarettes and stomping on them with her foot. "How dare you!" Pete began to walk down the hall. "First, I’m murdering the purple freak. Then, I’m coming back for you, you bloody jock!" Pete ran down the hall, disappearing. Rahne peeked into the room, where Kitty and Meggan were still bowling over with laughter. "What happened here?" Rahne inquired. "Lockheed played some pranks on Pete," Meggan managed to say, having a hard enough time breathing in between laughter. "Oh," Rahne nodded. "Mind if I come in?" Kitty shook her head no and waved for her to take the seat next to her that Pete had sat in before. "Ach, what is this?!" Moira fretted. "If I ever get my hands on that Wisdom for bein so rude to ye, I swear…." Moira crossed over to Kitty’s bed and began to pick up her dirty sheets. "Oh, Moira," Kitty began, "it’s not really his fault. Lockheed just played some pranks on him, that’s all." Moira picked up the sheets and walked to the door. "Well, I think he deserved them, he did!" Moira rationalized, walking down the hall. "I’ll be back with some clean sheets for ye!" The laughter began to cease, and Kitty and Meggan wiped their eyes. "Well, that was funnier than the time we slipped some of Moira’s coffee into Pete’s cup," Kitty commented. "It certainly was!" Meggan agreed. Rahne smiled. "I suppose we’ll have lots of fun watching it on the tapes then," she commented. "Oh, we certainly will, Rahne!" Kitty beamed. Her grin deteriorated as her mind drifted. "Thank you guys for being here for me. I really appreciate it. It’s just, well-" "Oh, Kitty, it’s okay, we’d do it for you anytime! And you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to," Rahne interupted. "No, that’s okay," Kitty said. "I want to. Trust me. I want to." "It’s just that, well, when Graydon….hurt me, I felt so violated and scared. I thought that for once, I was going to die, and that this was it, and that was how it was going to end. I ran away into myself, which is something I haven’t done in a long time, not since the Massacre……but anyways, the point is, I’m feeling better now. Not perfect, but better. And I wanted to thank you guys and let you know how much I appreciate it. And how much I love you guys," Kitty finished. "I want to make sure you guys know that." Done, she looked at her audience and smiled. Meggan stood up, reaching for Kitty’s hands. She gave her one of them. Meggan looked at Kitty right in the eye. "Kitty," Meggan said. "I want you to know that without you in my life, so many things would be so much more horrible than they were and are. I think of you as my best friend, Kitty, and if anything happened to you I would die. I want you to know that I know you love me, and that I love you, too." Rahne began to talk. "I know I have nae been here long, or as long as ye have, but I want to let ye know, there is nowhere else I’d rather be. I love you guys as, you’re my family. You, Meggan, Lady Moira, Douglock, all of you, all of you are my family. And if anything happened to any of you, I don’t know what I’d do." She finished, and Kitty smiled at her. "I’m glad we had this talk," Kitty commented. "And I’m glad you guys are my friends." Kitty touched Rahne’s hand and gripped Meggan’s hand firmly, then she grinned. "I really am." There was a knock on the door. "Come in," Kitty called. Amanda Sefton walked in with Kurt. "Amanda? You’re here?" "Yes, I am, Kitty," Amanda smiled. "And I’m glad to see you doing better." "Same here," Kitty noted. "But where did you go to?" "Well, like I told Kurt," Amanda meekly rejoined, "I needed some time away from the superhero business and from our relationship. It was all getting too much, too quickly, and I wasn’t used to the quantity that I was receiving of both of them. So, I began to worry, and when I found out my mother was in trouble, I stormed off without telling anyone about it, using that as an opportunity to get a break from all this. I’m afraid when I talked to Peter I was a bit angry. Not at him, but my mother. I fear I left the wrong impression." Amanda sighed when she was done, and looked at her. "Well, that makes sense," Kitty said. "It’s great to have you back!" "Thanks, Kitty. And it’s nice to see you again," Amanda complimented. "So, what happened with your mother?" Meggan curiously questioned. With all eyes on her, she began to stutter. "Well," Amanda babbled, "I- "Kitty? Kitty! Query, where is Kitty?" Douglock shouted down the hall, interrupting Amanda. Walking to the crowd of people with a bouquet of flowers, he saw Kitty. "Ah, Kitty! I brought you some flowers I acquired from a local townsperson who liked to spit a lot. But I don’t think he spit on the flowers, so I think you should be okay." Douglock grinned and walked over to her, handing her the flowers. "What were you going to say?" Kurt whispered to Amanda. "I’ll, uh, I’ll tell you later, Kurt," Amanda replied. The sounds of laughter filled the room, as other friends joined them (some with the residue of shampoo taste still in their mouths) and as the day went on, the mood generally improved, regardless of what pranks were played. It soon became clear that no matter what happened, no matter who got hurt how, they would survive. And with Pete Wisdom around to laugh at, who couldn’t be cheered up? "Hey," Pete yelled into the air. "I resent that remark! Hey, bub, just cuz you’re puttin me in your bleetin story doesn’t mean you can mock me!" Be quiet. "I’m not gonna be quiet, you bloody jock!" Be quiet or I’ll send Lockheed after you! And I am not a jock! "I’ll say whatever I want to- hey, what’s that?! Ouch!" Lockheed shot a burst of flame at Pete and grinned. Thanks Lockheed. I owe ya one! And so, they lived on (and laughed at Pete) some more. THE END I can’t believe I finished it!!!!! AHHHH!!!!! MY First Fanfic!!!!!
