Size 10 circular needles - at least 29 inches.

Caste on three stitches. Knit first row. Follow pattern as follows:

Row 1: K1, M1 *yo, k2tog* repeat between *s
Row 2: K1, M1 *knit all stitches *
Row 3: K1, M1 * knit all stitches *

Work in pattern until shawl is 2/3 completed. Switch to second pattern stitch as follows:

Row 1: K1, m1 * yo, K1; rep from * across to last st, end K1.
Row 2: K1, m1 purl across to last stitch, end K1.
Row 3: K1, m1 * k2tog, K1 * across to last stitch, end k1.
Row 4 and 5: K1, m1, * yo, k2 tog * rep between *s to last stitch, end k1
Row 6 and 7: K1, m1, * knit all stitches *

Repeat rows 1 - 7 again for 14 completed rows.

Row 15: K1, m1, * knit all stitches *
Row 16: K1, m1, * purl all stitches *
Row 17: K1, m1 * purl all stitches *
Row 18: k1, m1 *knit all stitches *
Row 19 and 20: K1, m1 *knit all stitches *

Repeat rows 1 - 20 again as outlined above. Main body of shawl is now completed. For a larger shawl, keep repeating rows 1 - 20 as outlined above until shawl reaches desired length.

Edging:

Cast on 8 stitches.
Row 1: k2, yo, k2 tog, yo, k2
Row 2: k2, (yo, k1) twice, yo, k2
Row 3: k2, yo, k2 tog, yo, k3, yo, k2
Row 4: k2, yo, k5, yo, k1, yo, k2 tog, k1
Row 5: k2, yo, k2 tog, yo, ssk, k3, k2 tog, yo, k2
Row 6: k3, yo, ssk, k1, k2 tog, yo, k2, yo, k2 tog, k1.
Row 7: k2, yo, k2 tog, k2, yo, sl 1 - k2 tog - psso, yo, k4
Row 8: Bind off 8 stitches, k3, yo, k2 tog, k1

Repeat rows 1 - 8 until piece is long enough to cover two sides of shawl. Block both main body and edging. Attach edging using I-cord along both sides, and stabilize top of shawl by just attaching I-cord.
