ANATOMY SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS:
Draw muscle groups as clearly as you can. A good way to distinguish between different muscle groups is to use colored pencils and to differentiate the muscle groups by color as well as shading at the edge of each muscle. You should begin with a light drawing of the bone structure so that origins and insertions of muscles can be properly located. Label all muscles by their correct names and briefly explain what movements the muscle facilitates -- example: the biceps muscles flex the forearm.
1. Torso, front, back and side. Begin with a well-proportioned drawing of the skeleton** in these three views. Draw the muscles on the skeleton paying close attention to origin and insertion points. If these points become obscured by muscles overlaying them do a drawing to the side or on another page showing the first layer(s).
2. Arm, supinated and pronated.
Follow same directions as #2 except showing front and back of arm in supinated position and front and back view of arm in pronated position.
3. Front and back views of the thigh, leg.
4. Front and side view of neck and head.
5. A self-portrait on white drawing paper using dramatic lighting to show the planes of the face. The background should be carefully considered so as to work with the portrait image.
**If this is your first quarter of life drawing you will be required to draw only the skeleton for each of the assignments. On these drawings the bones should be clearly labeled. All construction lines and points should be indicated with a contrasting color.
IMPORTANT: These drawings must be clearly and carefully rendered in proportion if they are to be any value at all.
