Frontline Assembly : [FLA]vour of the weak
is the record...
(flavour of the weak...for those that cannot read...:)
here come's the big in depth look at it (something I don't
ordinarly do...but whata heck...:)
Dave McKEAN has done the cover (again) its quite good...
I don't rank it as something from his top drawer...but
there are some good shit in the booklet...One is really cool,
Dave has manipulated a photo of Chris and Bill, it looks like
something from the x-files or such...
One suprise for me on this record is that Greg Reely is nowhere
to be seen...FLA's long time partner since Caustic Grip hasn't
produced or mixed this album...*sob*
Instead Bill & Chris has done all the mixing, producing and
engineering and the rest of that shit.
Some guy named Tom Baker has done the mastering thugh...(?)
1. Corruption (8:00)
Big intro, loads basslines and some really cool keyboards stuff.
FLA are pretty famous for their instrumental parts and this is
definatly one of their better...sounds like the best shit from
noise unit.
2. Sado Masochist (6.24)
Here we get a bigger tast of FLA's new sound, big
phat drum loops...those great keyboard stuff...
Leeb's voice appears for the first time.
Its been processed like hell...and it sounds great,
different from his former records.
Leeb tends to whisper a lot more and at the chorus
it feels like a mixture of vocoder and other FX's.
The chorus are REALLY great on this songs...
gives you eargasm.
3. Autoerotic (6:20)
Drum beats ahoy.
more of Leeb's whispering FX voice.
This is great with headphones.
Kinda trancy bits...
4. Colombian Necktie (6:53)
The first singel, more trance stuff.
Really distorted voice...whispering
...something he seems to like on this record.
LOADS of keyboard stuff...fitting.
Vocoder chorus...AHHHHH!!!!
This is the only songs that gives a cyber-hint...
Leeb says "new technology"...and I bet
the FLA-haters will hold that against him...
otherwise Leeb's lyrics has changed like hell...:)
more cryptic...goodie.
I really like a part where the drum rythm stops
and the keyboard slows down a little and
then the vocoder and the drum beat kicks in...YEAH!
5. Evil Playground (8:42)
Some weird children singing sample in
the background...makes this song feel mellow...
Great instrumental relaxing stuff...
but the song builds itself up brick by brick...
and drumloops exchange each other...
in the background from a Noise Unit
album...oh well...:)
6. Comatose (6:34)
Supposed to be the second singel.
I really like some of the weird noises in the
background on this song. Bill's
bassline is pretty clear on this song too.
Leeb's voice goes through new FX's...goodie.
The chorus is really great here too clear vocal stuff...
sounds like Leeb's old voice...
7. Life = Leben (6:34)
Starts with a cool beat...trying to work its
way into yer brain...:)
The vocal feels like those from Sado-Masochist..
.
and as those where great...well...
Oh yeah...Leeb also says :
For whom the beel tolls...
And there is a funny "UHMMMM" sample...
8. Predator (7:35)
Feels really like a Chemical track...
slow beat...but Bill's(?) or homever it is
that talks in the background makes
it different...and the whole
tracks breaks from time to time and then builds up
again...feels great...a fitting end.
BUT its not over yet...its of course also
an extra track...:)
9. Bonus Track (3:25???...I think...haven't clocked it...:)
Weird sample starts this Industrial
noisy bit.
Feels like Chris really wanted to get this onto
the record...break beats and noisy stuff.
I like it...some don't so what its a bonus...:)
Im off to buy the singels now...and hopefully
soon get "III"...if it ever gets released over here.
My grade 9/10...yeah and that's just me you think...
so there yah go...:)
2.
A reissue of VIVIsectVI. Possibly remastered. Nothing
new, don't worry. But even still, supposedly there is a remix
AND a
tribute album in addition to B&F volume 5&6 in the works.
have fun!
