No Sleep Tonight

echoes from a former life
by Daniel P. Ward

The world is a blur. Red Strobes, Chaos.
People moving, yelling, screaming.
Concentrate! What do you have for me?
It's a bad one.
The Call was made, the Bird won't fly.
you are on your own.
So be it. I can handle anything, I think
Let's move! Let's Rock and Roll!
You know what to do and where to go.
Look. What do you see?
Shattered. Limp. What the pain must be?
Concentrate! You know what must be done.
A scream of pain, a cry of terror.
Why did this happen? Why to her?
Please don't let me die...
Concentrate!
Don't be afraid! She needs you.
Remember the ABC's.
Secure the airway, set the leads,
Start a line. You can do all these!
Concentrate.
Please don't let me die...
I'm taking good care of you.
You're doing all right.
There are things I must do,
Things you may not like.
I need you to trust me
It's for your own good.
I trust you. Please don't let me die...
I Promise...
The rest is easy. Concentrate.
Fifteen minutes.
A heartbeat. An Eternity.
My Work is done.
I've performed my magic.
The Team will do theirs.
What happens next is up to her.
No one will sleep tonight.

Untitled
by Daniel P. Ward
When I dream,
I Remember.
Faces,
Blurred by time,
watch me when I sleep.
Are you friend or Foe?
I ask.
But they are silent.
And I think,
Maybe,
they are neither;
but the hands
that mold the figure,
that is Me.
