Wednesday June 4, 1997 -- Cleaning Day

Generic Joe does have a carpet! In anticipation of visitors...LadyDawn and the parents, I set aside tonight for clean up. And boy does my apartment need it. I'm writing this after several hours of cleaning, and I'm maybe half done.

I am a slob. I admit it. It doesn't help that I now live alone for the first time in my life, and so long as I eat, and have a functioning AirConditioner, Radio and computer, my needs are met.p Maggie has slightly different needs. She reminded me last night that i need to do her litter box. Thanks, Maggie. Not her fault, it's mine, I fell down on the job.

I decided to follow Ginger's advice and start in the kitchen and work around my apartment that way. I partly decided it because that would put the litter at the end (sorry Maggie) and because that room would be fairly easy.

Four bags of pizza boxes (I can't fit that many boxes in a bag, ok?) later, I realized how much pizza that meant I'd eaten. I also did the two loads of laundry, and started making a list of things I needed to finish the cleaning job. Mop. Broom. X-14. Stuff like that.

On my list were new innards for my toilet...the ball-assembly arm snapped off (the plastic part, so i couldn't just replace the ball), and I needed new screws for my chair.

So around, 8 I headed for Lowe's and got hardware and toilet insides. While I was out, I noticed there was a SuperK near Lowe's and swung over there for the rest of the stuff I needed.

For those who don't know both Lowe's and Super-K are probably distinctly American places. Lowe's is a hardware store gone huge, with everything from lumber to bathtubs to screws. It's one of the 'warehouse' stores, which is basically a big warehouse, you can shop in...

Despite the size of Lowe's, Super-K is bigger. Super-K used to be K-mart, back before Wal-Mart started getting big. When I lived in Greensboro, K-mart closed all their stores, and opened one Super-K. It has a grocery store *and* a discount store inside. i stood in the middle and looked both ways. Huge. Empty. Open 24 Hours. I grinned, it's just my sort of place

I went looking for fridge magnets. I was looking for one with a hook so I could hang Maggie's Favourite Toy (a twist tie dispenser) on the fridge. Didn't find one, but I did wind up bying an Iced Tea Pot (and iced tea bags, while i was there). Also got all the cleaning supplies I should need, and headed home.

I got home and finished the kitchen and dining area, and got started on my room. I skipped my den, since some of the stuff in there doesn't have places yet. I have to clean then put away. I started on my room, and realized I will have to go to a laundromate one day soon, and get my comforters and sheets done. So much to do, so much left undone. I made two big piles of clothes in the den. One to be washed, another to go to goodwill.

By this time i'd generated about 9 bags of trash, and was getting pretty stiff. It was 10:30 or so, so I got online and read mail, and played Heroes of Might and Magic II again, on an easier level (still lost...I'm not normally this clueless...)

Tomorrow night, I have a demo of the Web to my co-workers. I'm going to show them dejanews, and some of the better online-search things, and field questions. Hope they enjoy it. And when I get home, I'm going to clean some more.

By the way, If i leave cream out by my door, can I get fairies to clean my apartment for me? Pretty Please?
