Artful Salamander was asked to present an Octobriana lecture at
the COMICS 99 festival on 3 April 1999, but since the prospect
of public speaking filled me with dread, I knew that I had to
do something that little bit different. Although the story of
Octobriana deserves to be heard by a wider audience, I felt that
the traditional lecture format is something that can all too easily
become boring. So, in a bid to make the hour presentation something
to remember, the Octobriana Quizshow was born.
Four members of the audience took part in the Octobriana quiz,
and competed against each other to discover who was the most canny
when it came to Octobriana. No prior Oct-knowledge was required
as each contestant was given an A, B or C choice of answers. As
an incentive to take part, Artful Salamander had prizes in store
for everyone who took part -- a limited-edition Octobriana: Filling In The Blanks T-shirt, a copy of Octobriana: Underground Tales, and the first issue of Octobriana: Filling In The Blanks. Also, the overall winner walked away with a unique Octobriana
sketch by Bryan Talbot, which was actually created during the Octobriana Quizshow. As
well as having a laugh, the contestants and audience learnt something
about Octobriana at the same time.
