Coordinator, 1996-97: Madelyn Cook
Present: Jean Adelman, Victoria Bohm, Madelyn Cook (Recorder), Margaret Cunningham, Ross Day, Anne Dickerson, Mary Graham, Mimi Hernandez, Pat Hewitt, Barbara Mathe, Janet Stanley, Polly Trump.
Madelyn Cook reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting of April 28th 1996. At that time, a self-study of the Round Table was proposed and agreed upon. This was based on concerns about the low turn out at the 1996 meeting. Following some discussion of this at the 1997 meeting, Barbara Mathe made a motion that the self-study project be dropped. Jean Adelman seconded the motion. The consensus of those in attendance was that concentrating on fulfilling the Round Table's mission would be a better use of the time.
Mary Graham, President-Elect and an IACRT founding member, introduced herself as IACRT's liaison to the Board and to the Web. She also announced the dates of upcoming ARLIS deadlines.
Margaret Cunningham volunteered to serve as the Round Table's Coordinator for 1997-98.
Due to the limited time before the March 1998 conference, the consensus of the group was to defer planning another program until the 1999 conference in Vancouver. Ideas for possible projects for the 1998 conference in Philadelphia were explored. Jean Adelman suggested that a self-guided tour of the museums in Philadelphia be developed. This "virtual tour" would be sponsored by the Round Table and mounted on the Web and linked to the ARLIS home page. Margaret Cunningham offered to work with Jean on this project.
Other Web-based projects for IACRT were proposed. These included book reviews, site reviews, and bibliographies. Victoria Bohm suggested an indigenous art and culture resource directory listing resources beyond the Round Table's membership. Pat Hewitt (University of East Anglia) offered to be IACRT's resource person in the UK. Barbara Mathe offered to look at resources in British Columbia, with an eye toward a possible program for the 1999 conference in Vancouver.
The group was reminded about the upcoming panel discussion being co-sponsored by the Round Table. Session 12, Four Directions: Viewing the Ethnic Decorative Arts of the Southwest, was developed along with the Decorative Arts Round Table and the Public Library Division.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30am.
