Ten people attended the business meeting which took place on Sunday, April 6, 1997. It began with a brief review of the past year. A copy of the annual report was distributed to all attendees.
It was proposed that a discussion topic be added to the end of each regular business meeting, starting with next year. Ann Leslie Jones, from the Art Institute of Chicago, and Stephanie Moye, from the National Museum of American Art, will be responsible for our first discussion. The topic chosen is a user survey on how electronic journals are being used and the quality of the titles available online. In six months from now they will report to each other and see what is left to be done. A proposal for an "Ask ARLIS" session at the 1999 Vancouver conference might ensue from the discussion.
Two members of the SRT (Alexandra de Luise from Queens College and Adeane Bregman from Boston College) submitted a proposal for the new John Benjamins Award. The title of their project was: "Periodicals in review, a finding aid to reviews of recent art periodicals and indexes". They did not win the award but decided to rework the proposal (from a web site and budget point of view) during the coming year. This project corresponds with item 52 of the Strategic Plan.
Stephanie Moye has been elected as new Serials Round Table Coordinator.
Three sessions of Serials Swap, sponsored by the SRT, took place during the conference: on Saturday, April 5, and on Monday, April 7 (morning and evening). An average of 20 people attended each session. Gisele Guay from the Canadian Centre for Architecture was the coordinator.
