Writingchat Bios: P
I've created all my life, starting with making up stories (for which I got
soundly spanked) when I was small. Back then, they were called something
else. Eventually, I began to write them down and got good grades for them in
junior high. I took journalism in high school and realized that I'd found my
calling in writing. Unfortunately, as they said in the '60's (which it was),
life was what happened while I was busy making other plans. I got
sidetracked, married young (yes, Dr. Laura, it's the #1 stupid thing women
do to mess up their lives), and had two girls (still delightful and no
regrets for that -- just wish they'd had a parent instead of almost a peer).
By 21 I was divorced, did the hippie thing for 10 years, then got my life
back on track when I realized that there really is a God and he has a plan
for my life. In 1983, I married my wonderful Bob and have lived happily ever
after.
All through everything, I've written things -- some good, some not-so-good.
I've kept a journal much of my life and will bequeath my daughters stacks of
spiral notebooks. I've submitted a few of my stories and essays, but got
rejections until last year when I won a writing contest at a local junior
college for a short story that just poured itself out of my head onto the
page. Although the competition was NOT stiff, the timing of the win, 10
days after a prayer about what to do with my life, gave me the encouragement
I needed to continue considering myself "a writer". So, here I am, y'all,
unable to not write, tentative about what to do, and eager to learn.
I'm 48, have lived in Texas most of my life, have been ecstatically,
happily, goofy-in-love married 14 years, have three outstandingly brilliant
and beautiful grandchildren, an elderly mother who has always been my good
friend, and a grandmother who will be 90 on August 9. I'm a committed
Christian but I know I don't have all the answers -- yep, I'm even a
Southern Baptist (GASP from the crowd!!!), but lots of us are regular folks,
just like y'all out there.
Well -- that's me. Hope to get to know more of you 600 people out there in
cyberspace.
Ahem. Got a memo today, requesting my bio.

I'm one of the original moldies, showing up in this here shop on August 21, 1995 (yes, I actually fall for that little trick in welcome notes: "save this email you may need it later." Like I'm going anywhere?). Somewhere along the line I became the Prez, mostly cuz I plan to be President of something-or-another when I grow up. As the Prez, I put up that big walnut desk in Corner Number 10, the one with the official seal of the Party Party.
Many thanks to Adrian for introducing me to those attack frogs. I've hired some of them as Secret Service, although they are having a lot of trouble figuring out where to attach the ear phones.
I don't do poetry night because I don't do poetry. I do novels mostly, and nobody's ever offered to have a novel night.
I don't wax philosophical over too many things, and I don't usually throw food around. I grump pretty well, though, but that's what presidents do. They grump.
I have a web site that's not even close to being finished. I've decided I'm not a fan of IRC since it lags to much, but I do play on PowWow (I'm GrumpyFrog). I've got lots of other secrets that I ain't tellin'.
