Margi Washburn

I'm Margi...no nickname yet, but that may change. I write poetry, features, short stories, and am on my third novel. The first one is unpublished, and the second one may never be finished. I live in Illinois with my 2 sons (ages 21 and 23) and my husband Gary. We have two cats and two dogs.

Occasionally I write for our daily newspaper. I especially enjoy long walks around the lake on cool, cloudy, windy days. If I could, I'd live in Maine, on the coast and preferably in a lighthouse. If not there, then a cabin nestled in the woods.

I like early mornings, especially if it's still dark. Chocolate, coffee, and diet soda are essentials in my life. A nice cold beer on a hot summer night is okay, too.

In the coffeehouse I have a booth that expands to fit however many want to stop by. A cushion appears on the seat when I need to stop in for a nap and it helps when I lay back to stare at the stars far above the carousel. Knowing that my friends are here is a comfort to me. I never feel alone, unless that's the way I want it.

Editorial Note: Since she wrote this, Margi has discovered that she is MargInCharge, Margibim (to match Terriphim), and RaspberryLady.

Sue Wemett

[I nervously walk into the coffeehouse, look around briefly, attempting to look as nonchalant as I can muster. I sit down at a vacant table after fumbling with the chair, which was lighter than at first appearance. I order a cuppa Decaf Creme de Noisette and a bagel with cream cheese. Gosh, I hate new places. I feel so self conscious.]

Hello. I'm new here. My name is Sue, penned often as SLV Wemett, and I write poetry. I live in Upstate NY, and have a 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son, amongst other things. I just wanted to introduce myself. Cool digs you've got here.

I have just signed up for the Writing and Poetry Workshops. I am looking forward to beginning, am concerned about the time commitment, but I think I can do it. Just a matter of reworking my priorities. I am also a singer of sorts, a "chorus girl" in the Rochester Oratorio Society, a 200 member choir which performs major classical works, often in major places, and often with major orchestras. Last weekend we performed at Chautauqua Institution. A total Gas!! I take voice lessons as well, in my "spare" time. I am a 1975 graduate of Brighton High School, studied Special Education/Elementary Education at Kent State for two years, the degree unfinished, then received an Associate of Science degree in Liberal Arts from Monroe Community College locally. I have completed the Institute of Children's Literature's writing course as well, but my imagination is otherwise occupied for the moment.

Following college, and the Army where I was a Behavioral Science Specialist, I followed a medical track. I worked after discharge as a Nursing Assistant, taking courses for Pharmacy Tech, EKG Tech, Arrhythmia Recognition, phlebotomy, Emergency Medical Technician, Human Anatomy, and teaching CPR classes for the American Red Cross for 5 years. I have been an Emergency Medical Technician [and Patient Care Technician] for the last 10 years, due to expire next year. My CPR expired last year so don't go arresting on me! It's very difficult, and tedious, to perform CPR online.

I enjoy exercising, running when my weight is a tad lower, am a vegetarian, garden veggie and perennial gardens, and toy with chess and a few musical instruments. I've become a computernerd [and the kids fight me for computer time], poetry occupying the majority of my time.

I began writing poetry in 5th grade when a teacher encouraged the skill on some unrecalled work. All my younger works are gone, lost in transit in the military from Bremerhaven, Germany Meddac where I was stationed as a Behavioral Science Specialist, to Fitzsimons Army Medical Ctr., Aurora, CO in 1980. They were written in fountain pen so if they were ever recovered they'd probably be trashed anyhow. I stopped writing after that, but picked up a few years ago with an unrequited love affair [Oh, what those unrequited loves can do to us!]. When this computer was born into my life last Christmas, my poetry was put on floppy and the poetry boards became laden with my work. My love absent, my network dumped, I now need an outlet and an impetus. Don't send any men to my house ladies [Well, if you insist........], and my voice teacher is encouraging me to strengthen my skill and publish.

That's the ins, outs, ups, downs, forward and backs of my life presently. Can I get your virtual tab for you?

I am a high school junior. I have been writing for four years, though never with as much regulrity or dedication as I should. I write mostly poetry, as well as fantasy short-stories. I am also working on an idea for a novel.

Besides writing I am a computer nut. My first computer was a Commodore 64. Those were the days. I enjoy computer programming and am working on a tile-based graphics engine for windows.

I love nature, cats, people, mint, and rootbeer. I'll be perfectly happy if I can find a table by the wall and shout out thoughts at random.

Now that we seem to be in the middle of a newbie-flood I'm spurred to revise my bio. Haven't done that since we moved from Kansas and left the racoons, the land, and our beautiful and much-missed house in the hands of someone named Zip. I try not to think about that too much. I also haven't updated my chat-page pic since I shaved my head almost a year and a half ago. I don't look like that anymore.

I'm a middle aged hirsute male hominid living in the northeastern corner of Florida on the edge of a salt marsh at the back of a barrier island near the Intercoastal Waterway. Ex-musician, ex-hippy, ex-radical (well, maybe not so ex sometimes), unashamedly left wing, ex-power lifter, ex-biker, ex-software geek, ex-employed, ex-vegetarian. Those are all formers, some more former than other. I've had poetry and short fiction published, working on completing longer fiction with an eye to publication, fame and riches. Married to Ms. Mouse, from whom all good things flow and to whom all praise is due.

Sharing the house with Kilgore Trout (an emaciated hyperthyroid 17 year old Maine coon cat), !muffin (a twelve pound female calico and perfect predator, now semi-retired [though still the terror of many a lizard] and living palatially indoors), and Pete the Airehead Airedale. Father of four grown kids, grandfather of four ungrown kids.

More often ass-kicker than hand stroker, though not a complete visigoth.

Given to moods.

Tender, and usually sole occupant, of the zen garden.

Nice to see you all.
