The first men to be created and formed were called the Sorcerer of Fatal Laughter, the Sorcerer of Night, Unkempt, and the Black Sorcerer... They were endowed with intelligence, they succeeded in knowing all that there is in the world. When they looked, instantly they saw all that is around them, and they contemplated in turn the arc of Heaven and round the face of the earth.... Then the Creator said: "They know all...what shall we do with them now? Let their sight reach only to that which is near; let them see only a little of the face of the earth!... Are they not by nature simple creatures of our making? Must they also be Gods?"
--The Popol Vuh of the Quiche' Maya
"The little space within the heart is as great as this vast universe. The heavens and the earth are there, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars; fire and lightning and winds are there; and all that now is and all that is not: for the whole universe is in Him and He dwells within our heart." --The Chandogya Upanishad
The Big Bang theory reveals an immense vista of cosmic evolution. About 20 billion years ago, the cosmic expansion was initiated. Conditions at this initial instant and before this instant are matters for speculation that the conventional theory does not address...
The early universe was very hot, very dense, and perhaps also very irregular. The irregularity and anisotropy gradually decayed. Within minutes after the Big Bang, some nuclear reactions occurred; essentially all the helium in the universe was synthesized at that time. As the universe expanded, it cooled, much as hot air expands and cools. The cosmic background radiation is a residual vestige of this early era; it has been aptly christened the relic radiation of the Primeval FIREBALL.
As the matter in the universe cooled, it eventually condensed into galaxies, according to one scenario for the evolution of the universe. The galaxies fragmented into stars and clustered together to form great aggregations over vast regions of space. As the first generations of stars were born and died, the heavy elements, such as carbon, oxygen, silicon and iron, were gradually synthesized. As stars evolved into red giants, they ejected matter that condensed into dust grains. New stars formed from clouds of gas and dust. In at least one such nebula, the cold dust collapsed into a thin disk surrounding the star. Dust grains adhered to one another by coalescence and accumulated into larger bodies that grew in size by their gravitational attraction, forming the diverse array of bodies, from tiny asteroids to giant planets, that constitutes the solar system.
The Big Bang theory leads us through the evolution of the entire universe, from the first microseconds of time to the formation of the earth and the development of life and into the possibly infinite future.
THE GREAT INVOCATION From the point of Light within the mind of God Let light stream forth into the minds of men. Let Light descend on Earth. From the point of Love within the Heart of God Let love stream forth into the hearts of men. May Christ return to Earth. From the centre where the will of God is known Let purpose guide the little wills of men -- The purpose which the Masters know and serve. From the centre which we call the race of men Let the Plan of Love and Light work out And may it seal the door where evil dwells. Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth. OM OM OM
The Accelerating Universe? Seeing a Discovery science special On the creation of the universe I sat spellbound, awed and scared By what was unfolding before me... Back, back, back in time to the Big Bang when out of nothingness Came the crashing roar of an explosion And the ceaseless expansion of matter As well as anti-matter, splattered Like paint on an artist’s canvas. But what is the meaning? If the Universe is expanding indefinitely, If there is not enough gravity To hold it all together cohesively... What will happen? It will disappear, recede before Our very eyes, the drifting kaleidoscope Of galaxies, stars, worlds racing faster And faster into that dark oblivion— We’ll cease to exist. All that we now know, see, hold Before us in the visible universe Will die a slow death as light Fades and darkness descends. Then what is the meaning of Our small, narrow human lives? Only to observe, celebrate, to be Aware of where we are, what it Is that has existed for a moment In time? How foolish we are in Our humanity, thinking that we Will achieve immortality in acts, In genes, in any way whatsoever. For it will all surely perish— It is only a matter...of time. How bleak, how forlorn... That all, even alien life if it exists, Will be swallowed up in the vastness Of space and time. It as though I cannot breathe Having this possibility of destiny Yet... Better to accept than to deny. --C.S.
