INTRODUCTION

I'm a book lover; I can't help it!

Sometimes I think it might be an addiction, since I'm always reading something -- whether fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Not only has reading been a life-long pursuit, it has enriched and ennobled my life -- I've learned so much from books that I could never have learned otherwise. And I've been entertained, amused, lived lives far remote from my own here in the South, always feeling I'd escaped my own individual prison to mingle among those whose fictional worlds seem sometimes more real than reality.

In this spirit, I was inspired to become a writer; I wanted to give something back, to pass along my own unique vision of life, the world and what it held for me. As a child, I could literally disappear for hours with good books [which was a distinct help during a turbulent family life); and I always felt much older than my age, mainly because the wisdom of wiser souls spoke with me frequently via their books. I was spoken of as being, "More mature than others my age." This, no doubt, was due to the continuing influence of books and what I gleaned from them whenever I needed to problem-solve. No shrinks for me, thanks; I know my way to the public library, and to this day, it's one of my favorite hangouts (along with the internet byways for books/book-lovers/writers). When I first heard that term, "Reading is fundamental"...I thought, "Yes, I always knew that!"

I do have a vice though: I love suspense/thriller novels! Ah, so I've confessed. Usually, I'll choose that genre for pure entertainment, but have found some gems among the formulas; and I'd love to suggest these novels for your enjoyment too. Perhaps it's the rush of riding the dangerous edge because these novels, at their best, propel the reader into an unbearable tension and expectation. Pages fly by as the story twists and turns, careening into plot blockades seemingly impossible to surmount. The shattering, explosive climax is always a real treat; and also, a relief! So there will be many suspense novels in my reviews.

However, I also love a widely diverse variety of other novels -- classics, romance, supernatural, mainstream, mystery, etc. And I hope to develop categories for reviews, in order for readers to find the particular genre they enjoy and read reviewers columns to see if the book would appeal to them. And I'm always open to readers' suggestions for a book I might enjoy and then review.

As I write this, my favorite chair is waiting, and beside it is a stack of books I got at the local library and bookstore. I am eager to begin a new novel, knowing that I can now review these and suggest them to readers, who in turn may find that special gem that lights up their imagination and makes them want to shout, "Yes! This is a great read!"

Do check back occasionally for new reviews; and drop me a line telling me your reaction to my reviews: agreement or disagreement, or suggesting a good read.
