Carrying Spirits Home

From the far north their spirits fly

Echoing against velvet clouds drawn across the sky

Magnificent journey guided by memory's warmth

Pulled toward distant shore's far below

Their other perch, strong wing's freely flying

Writing their signature through heightened gale's

Near perfect formation led by one

Course close to that before

Another year engraved in their eyes

Passing moment's carrying their delightful noise

As they speak to one another.

O'erhead, with smile we watch their trek

Mind's softer moments turning to their nature

With wonderment we reach inside

Tucking our dreams alongside their graceful flight

Our hearts are kissed as we peacefully reach

Tender palms into the air

Almost as if to share our spirits

Wishing them well on their simple sojourn

Far below the wind's breathe turn's leaves

Red and yellow, water's clearer with calm

A quilted bed, the shadows pillows

As sunset nears and descends

Long circular arc's slowly approaching

Finally, feet forward they skim the surface

Gliding peacefully to days end

Quietly floating resting wings lowered

Reflecting upon waters before the sun

Becomes the moon

Night time touches their heads

They are the geese on their long trek south

Northern winds to their backs

Tasting the Gulf on their knowing lips.
