Colours Along the Path
On a long walk tonight with a friend we were carried along by the colours of landscape. Little tufts of grass along the pathway are germinating and rising upward, their light hue appearing like velvet... at times I found myself trying to avoid stepping on them. They seem shy in the shade where they curl a bit.. I wondered perhaps if they were closing their eyes .... laughing... maybe they are not "evening" grasses and were simply preparing to sleep. New growth budding on the trees is a very light greenish-yellow... the needles not yet completely formed. But the wildflowers are magnificent.. crimson and blue... purple and cream... gold and orange, each beckoning to be smelled, each calling to be admired and held. Higher and far off in the distance shadows from the clouds can be seen tracing their breathe along the ridges where the landscape changes from dark to light green, back and forth in a show of abstract delight.
As we walked and chatted we played that game called "I spy"... where one selects the colour of something they see while the other tries to guess which one is in mind and eye. This was quite difficult because there were so so many wonderous colours around us.... needless to say one of us kept changing their choice - making it even more difficult! In the end, on our way back we both spoke of how there was so much more than at first we thought we saw. Through someone else's eyes... there are always more colours along the path.
