As if popups and obligatory banners on EVERY page weren't enough!!
You can send your displeasure about the watermark and/or popups

In order to view it, you must have Netscape Navigator 3.01, MSIE 4.0, Opera 3.2b2 (or higher) with the Javascript enabled.

June 1999: Yahoo! took over GeoCities and the watermark appears to be gone. Now there is just a smallish logo at the bottom of the screen. It is no longer necessary to upgrade past Netscape3 in order to see the change. But now that has disappeared too. But they have promised that the watermark will return. October 1999: And now the geoguide is gone too and replaced by the oh so attractive Ad Box. (unless you have less than version 4... you are getting the dreaded popup instead.) What a piece of work that is! November? 1999 Because of protests, the geoguide was reinstated. |
If you had Netscape 4 or MSIE 4, sadly, you already know that it was a 107x41 image that floated up and down as one scrolled.
But GeoCities, in their wisdom, improved the watermark by making it an animated image! (and changing the size from 1.41kb to 3.30kb -I optimized it and got it down to 2.52kb, without changing its looks as far as I know) It only morphed once and then stayed on the "g".

More GeoCities Advertisements below
This space was here for people with MSIE/Netscape 4 so that they could still read all of the page without the flickering geocities brand getting in the way. Please contact GeoCities (GeoCities Comment Submission Form) to tell them what you think. |

Because I don't pay money for this page and GeoCities (Free Home Pages) attaches pop-up advertisements on any GeoPage without the GeoGuide, I am compelled to choose the lesser of the two evils and install the GeoGuide with its advertisements below, over which I have NO control.
It has recently been brought to my attention that some of you are seeing an annoying and flickering geocities brand at the bottom right hand corner of all GeoPages. Again, I have NO control over any of these GeoCities advertisements. They are the cost of having GeoCities host the pages. If you have any comments about any of these advertisement ploys, please direct them to GeoCities (GeoCities Comment Submission Form).
